Tversity and others....

Is there one that is regarded the best even if you have to pay for it? As with PS3 Media Server mine seems to be fine for 5 mins then 5 mins of constant stuttering making it unwatchable?

Is: "keyint=1:vqscale=1:vqmin=1 /* Lossless Quality, Crazy Bitrate */" better than: "keyint=1:vqscale=1:vqmin=2 /* Best Quality */"

The Best Quality one is above it in the list, so im not sure what the best one to go for is. Over wired connection, so i guess the "Lossless" will be the best?

Well the lower the numbers the better the setting, So a vqmin=1 would be better than a vqmin=2-5, Out of those lossless would be the best quality due to the lack of anything over 1. :)

That's okay, tried it and it seems fine streaming a 1080p sample. Will keep at it, but it seems pretty much the same as tversity with a smaller footprint which is cool.

Ok so i have uninstalled PS3 media server and Tveristy.

I just have Media Player 12 setup now. It works with my pictures, music (itunes format) and some video files.

**BUT** its extremly slow !! you have to wait a few minutes to load a file. Now i am guessing this is the wireless :( so later i am gonna connect up the PS3 and laptop via network cable to the router and see what happens then.

I have now tried loading files onto my USB memory stick and they play fine nice and quick.

About from MOV files that are from my HD camcorder, is the PS3 not complatible with them ? if not is this where the PS3 and TVersity is good to transcode them to allow them to play???

Thanks Ben

I used to do this till i realised that putting anything i want to watch on a 2gb USB stick and plugging that into the xbox was a hell of a lot easier.

No good when you want to watch a 13gb HD movie though really. :)

Well both tveristy and ps3 media server are not working well for me.

Everything i play just keeps stuttering and fails to play.

Even playing a photo slide show gives errors :(

PLays a moive for 10 seconds then stops.

My PC is more than powerful enough to run the transcode aswell, core 2 duo 2.26Ghz 4Gb RAM.

Any idea or good help site links ?

Thanks Ben

First thing I would say is that I had an e2140 @ 3.2Ghz and 2gb of ram and that struggled with high bit rate HD streams. I would get stutter as well. I'm going to try again now I have 4gb of ram and a q6600. You need to eliminate the wireless bottleneck first of all when testing, as any issues you have are likely to be wireless limitations. Test it over cat5e / cat6 run.

I have tried Tversity but had probelms which I think were related to having too many/little codecs. It got complicated and frustrating getting mkv files to work at the same time as normal avi files. After getting stutter for a while I ditched it and went back to media player sharing (this is on XP) and everytime I wanted to watch an mkv HD file, I just used mkv2vob and made the file into mpg format so media player could share it. Works ok, but woudl be nicer to just be able to play everything. When will they release a PS3 firmware that plays native mkv files. Getting annoying now.

Anyway, I will definitely try this ps3 media server thing when I get a chance.

If you don't need transcoding then you just need to setup your folders in Windows Media Player and that's it. There's no need for tversity/transcoding if your xbox can natively play back the formats.

Can I just add that I streamed an 8Gb HD (1080p) movie over my wireless network flawlessly to my PS3 using PSMS on my P4 3Ghz 2GB RAM machine. So I don't understand how people with much better systems get any kind of issues.....

That's interesting. Hmm. Maybe it's more sensitive to codecs installed/not installed than I thought. I don't get how people have no problems using wireless. Do you use wireless 54mbps ? This can only provide a single transfer rate (remember wirleess is not full duplex 54mbps) of say 27mbps in an absolute ideal world. More likely to be around 20. Have you tried with high bit rate files like around 50mbps ? Sorry if I got any of this wrong I am by no means an expert in this field. I did a cat5e run to minimize issues in the future when HD bit rates get higher.

Tversity\PSMS are not just sensitive to codecs, they are the basis of how the system works. it's the reason behind using FFDshow, Haali and Ac3filter. Instead of codec packs. They are known to work and you get no conflicts. Everything but MKV work for me, and thats on a spec similar to anticonscience. AMD 2.6ghz OC, 2gb RAM. take a look around, the main advice ANYONE will give you, is dont use codec packs, not even the one included with Tversity.

Also AND THIS IS IMPORTANT, Always make sure the AC3 filter is downmixing to 2channel, as the 360 doesnt support any more than 2 channel. dont be changing to 5.1, etc. during setup.

I have just ran a few tests. This is using media player 12 *NOT* ps3 media server or tversity

PS3 and laptop both on wireless, its rubbish very slow and unable to watch video.

Both PS3 and laptop connected to router via cable and its great :D nice and fast and just tested a 1080p movie trailer from the laptop and it was fine !

I then tried PS3 wireless and laptop connected to router, it was watchable but alittle slow. I could watch the 1080p movie trailer alright. But for some other reason it then stopped showing other movie files ??? strange

So not sure if the problem lies with my laptop wireless ???

All my problems have come down to the wireless speed.

If i wanna use a media server i have to be connected via cable not wireless, simple as that.

I carnt run cables to where the PS3 is and my laptop so i am stuck with wireless. For now media server on the PS3 is disabled.

I am using the memory stick option now to watch files on my PS3 works great.

The only problem i have now is with .MOV files they dont work on the PS3 and the media server used to transcode them to allow me to watch.

I am now having to encode them first and then load onto memory stick to watch on PS3 works well if alittle long winded. The program i use to encode from .MOV to .mp4 is HandBrake its great and free !!

Thanks for all the help people :)
