Disaster of the Decade!!!! 5870 broken and warranty void - now what??

Short on the board? Cooler not making good contact to the core so overheating? I almost botched a cooler install on a HD 4890, just caught it in time. HSF wasn't quite true to the core and it hit 100c in a matter of seconds.

there could be many reasons why it's not working, the way i would run and check to see whether it's the graphics card is.

barebone setup.
that would be CPU
RAM and graphics card, try another graphics card see if you get the same symptoms. what you also have to be aware that when you touch graphics card you can actually damage the card via a short, that's why its recomended that you wear a earth strap so that you dont damage the card.

Sorry to be unhelpful but I don't get what you have done without seeing pics. (if their are pics in the OP I apologize, our proxy often blocks pics randomly)

If you're a student and unable to afford another card why were you modding such an expensive graphics card? Could have just left it air cooled.

Also I can't honestly believe the amount of people trying to justify RMAing it back, he broke the card himself, Sapphire or the retailer shouldn't have to be out of pocket just because he messed up his graphics card.

you cant tell me that if you borked your new card you would not try the same?! ;)

i would buy another one and be a lesson learned not to mess with expensive parts. weve all been there, iv'e blown up a mobo before and i had to get a new CPU aswell. the problem you have is that cuase you have messed with the graphics card you have voided the warranty, sapphire will have no responsibility for that and will charge you if you wanted it repaired.

@dave1983, not everyone has money to just go out and buy another high end graphics card you know..

I feel for you OP, I think if I was in your shoes, I'd be pretty close to tears actually!!! :(

It should be a lot easier for folk to help you with the removal of this screw once you get the pics up.

I'm sure you can get special drill bits for removing screws that are stuck, but I can't remember what they are called, and these screws are probably to small for something like that..

I really hope you get it sorted out, and that it is just something that is shorting your card out that is causing it not to work just now.. good luck mate :)
