Anyone had to have a replacement PCM (ECU?) fitted to a MK6 Fiesta or similar? (this ones a 1.4 55 Plate Petrol Manual)

Just had a £77 diagnostic at a Ford and then another £50 for an hours labour on the car wiring - the verdict: new pcm @ £650 fitted. :(

Sounds quite expensive to me - but then I have no idea what these kind of things cost

Bit rubbish to have something like that go on a 55 plate, surely?

I'd be ringing Ford up and letting my feelings be known!

Edit: £650 for an ECU isn't that bad... I don't know if it's a good deal for that car or not, but usually it needs coding into the alarm system etc which takes time, and also the unit itself is usually pretty expensive.

Spending that kind of money on a car of that age, to me is just mental regardless. Never owned a car that new and never had to spend anything near that fixing it. Infact never spent more than £50 to 'fix' a car.

I had the EAC fail error come up, but I think it was fixed by an ECU update, not a replacement. Mine was done under warranty though.

When I purchased the car I could have had a 5 year warranty for £800, should have done it now - wasn't really expecting this kind of thing on a Appoved used ford with less than 30K on it though tbh. Though I suppose thats what a warranty is for /facepalm

Bearing in mind I have no idea how easy this is or whether or not it's even possible...

is there scope for grabbing one from a scrap yard and paying an indie to do the programming? Must be loads of Fiestas lying in scrappies given how common they are. Not sure if the modules are unique to each model however.

Spent the last few days investigating the scrappy option and seems to pose a few potential issues that will be well beyond my car knowledge :( So just rang the stealers and told them to do it - ordered a bit of door trim that had come of from next to the drivers side window too - so at least the car will look a bit tidier when it comes back!

Missing having the car now :( thinking of treating meself to some nice new interior bits when it comes back...

with potentially the ST consoles from this page:

and maybe this:

but to make that lot worth it would need to maybe wrap the dash, base of the console, and potencially the door cards (though have found ST interior door bits cheap)

Anyone know some reasonalble seats that are nicer than the cloth ones in a mk6?

Unfortunately dealers do have a habit of saying "replace" when anything throws up an error code.

Just hope it does fix it for you. With stuff like this dealers really do have you over a barell as theres way it can be done cheaply. Assumiing that the actual module itself is faulty, and its not some other fault.

If it doesnt fix it, and they're blindly charging £650 to fit expensive parts in the hope it fixes it, the strongest of complaints will be in order.
