what oil for BMW X5 3.0i petrol?

What oil should I be getting my new motor? It seems to have gone from the max to the min in 2k miles!

Castrol Edge 0w30.

And about a litre every 2k sounds about right.

It does seem a lot of oil, my e90 320i 4pot didn't need a top up in 15k!!

I'm assuming this is an E53 X5? The M54 engines in these use oil.

Yeah its a 2004 e53, looks like I best get myself to halfords tomorrow! In fact, wheres cheap to get my oil from guys?

If you need it in a hurry buy it from BMW not Halfords. It's the same price - about 15 quid for a litre - but you get a free BMW oil bag that velcros into your boot. Otherwise get it on Ebay - 4 litres is about 35-40 quid.

Morrisons has been known to sell litre bottles for under a tenner.
