The Wire - any good?

The wire is awesome. First few eps are boring but I was hooked as soon as the real storylines started to show. I did struggle with some of the later episodes aswell S5 I think with the news room? There was no way I wasn't going to finish it though to get closure on all the story lines. Omar is awesome.

Ive got the big box set, loved S1, but really cant get into S2. Does it just start slowly?

Sort of. I think for season 2 they took a 7 or 8 part story and stretched it out over about a dozen episodes. The boss of the docks (can't remember his name, Frank something) gives a great performance as does Ziggy. You need to stick with it to make sense of season 3 (the best season, IMO) but ultimately it's the weakest of the five seasons. It's still great though.

I'd say the weakest was five: they picked a target (the press) and didn't seem to know what to do with it, apart from string a load of clichés together about the new and old press types. The trouble with series two was that the two stories it told had nothing to do with each other until later series. And I still put the first series as the best, because it was the purest.

Plus series one had one of the most incredible TV genre moments that should be taught as example of superb imprivised acting, innovative screenplay writing and perfect self critical genre humour to all classes at movie schools - I'm talking about the McNulty and Bunk scene with nothing but the ef word in all possible variations repeated 40 times to create absolutely perfect and successful "crime scene investigation" pastiche. Episode four was it?

I absolutely loved The Wire, season two was possibly my favourite, based mainly on the quality of the Sobotka family characters and the stories involving them.

But let this man explain why you should watch it (part 2 and 3 are also on YouTube):

Seems "snoop" has lead a colourful life

Instead of attending school, Pearson worked as a drug dealer. At the age of 14, she was convicted of second-degree murder in the shooting death of a girl named Okia Toomer and sentenced to eight years at the Maryland Correctional Institution for Women in Jessup, Maryland.[1] Pearson said her life turned around at the age of 18 when Arnold Loney, a local drug dealer who looked out for her and sent her money in prison, was shot and killed. It was he who had given her the nickname "Snoop" because she reminded him of Charlie Brown's beagle Snoopy in the comic strip Peanuts. While in prison, she earned her GED and was released in 2000. She landed a local job fabricating car bumpers, she says, but was fired after only two weeks when her employer learned she had a prison record.

Pearson is openly gay

The last part is no surprise mind :D.

I only realised she was a girl in the scene when she asks Michael if her hair looks pretty. I didnt watch absolutely every episode though, I watched from about when the docks union was having trouble
