Playing a game this morning, and the screen went grey. Rebooted, no boot info etc... just grey.... :(

....lucky I have a 8800GTX in reserve.

The GTX260 was a replacement I got for one of my 8800GTX cards 2 months ago, hasn't lasted very long.

Sorry to hear that. Thats not good news.

my advise, RMA it.

BFG has probably one of the best 'after sales' support in the market.

Good luck

Yeah I'm gonna try a few things first, sometimes these cards can come back to life if you switch the machine off for a while. Think its probably a heat problem that I think affects many of these cards.

If it does start again, I think its just a matter of time before it goes completely... its on borrowed time.

grey screen = bad connection. When i first put my 9800GT onto a HD monitor it just went grey. Found the adaptor fell off.

But if its a serious issue and not fixable RMA it. you might get a 285 or a 295 :)

The adaptor was screwed in, however it appears to have come back to life. Ran a benchmark and gpu temps went up to 76.

I've upped the fan speed to 100% to see if that keeps things running.

Hope it gets me past xmas and new year while I'm on holiday, then it can break if it wants ;)

76 degrees should be ok for an Nvidia GPU. Hopefully it was just a glitch and it will be ok, at least for your holiday :P. If it does it again im sure BFG will replace it for you.

There seems to be an awful lot of BFG cards dying recently..

Unfortunatly seems to be the case... my BFG 260 MAXCORE starting showing problems lately - but my RMA experience was pretty good - posted out last thing on a Thursday, new replacement card turned up first thing monday. Fingers crossed so far the replacement seems good.

Friend of mine just had both his 9800GTX+ water cooled editions go bad within a month of each other and one of the replacements didn't work first time.

Most of the problems seem to come down to bad BGA soldering - but strange it affects their cards over different generations as the cards themselves have all come off the same line as other companies and I've not seen EVGA, Gainward, etc. have the same level of failure.

Thought I would just update this thread. It turns out this is happening to quite a few people and could be driver related.

Whats happening is that in certain Games (for me Borderlands), the Graphics card freezes showing only a solid single colour (in my case grey), a warm restart does not fix this issue, it can only be rectified by actually fully switching off the machine and restarting.

There are various theories on this, and its happening on ATI cards too. Some have driver crashes, screen freezes etc.

The solution I've tried, that worked for me, was to underclock the shader.

Well my XFX 260 has gone, I don't think (from what i have heard) XFX have customer service anywhere near as good as BFG

I don't think much of BFG's recent customer service - I'm convinced that my 3 295 replacements have merely been other customer RMA cards that exhibited different problems to the one I reported & RMA'd.

If something come back that works - consider selling it on, because there is no guarentee that it will be working for long.

That said - my BFG GTX260 Maxcore OC has had a very hard life and continues to perform flawlessly.
