Got an Xbox 360 Elite 120gb for christmas (thanks santa !)

anyway, im slightly confused as the only cables in the box are an ethernet cable and a composite lead with a scart adaptor.

What happened to the component and optical break out cables that you used to get as standard with the elite ?

Well hacked off, there was a time when they came with HDMI cables too, no sign of that either.

Ive already got a HDMI spare, but i'm now going to have to fork out for some sort of lead to the get the audio to my home cinema receiver.

I feel your pain.

Santa delivered me a PS3 for Christmas and all it comes with is a terribad Scart connection. To make matters worse, the only HDMI cable I have laying about refuses to display anything above 576p, which looks no better than Scart on my telly =( I understand that cutting these "little" extras make the package as a whole more affordable, but for a "Next Gen" console, and particularly one whose major selling point is based on Hi-Definition Gaming and Blu-Ray it takes the proverbial.

It's those little extras that make all the difference when you get a new console, but I understand why they aren't included.

also can anybody confirm how long the warranty is on 360 ?

I saw the news reports and threads about it being extended to 3 years a year or two back, but the bloke in game was adament that was suspended and it was now only 1 year, and i was playing with fire not taking out games console insurance. I declined and said id do my own research thanks.

pah knew i was being had :D

he was trying to tell me i wouldnt be covered for that after a year and should take out their 2 year insurance. Glad i didnt now :)

It's still one year if your disc drive breaks. But then I guess you could drop it on the floor and cause an E74. :D

on a separate note, how do you get the audio break out box ?

seems only to be sold as part of a bundle with the HDMI cable ?

i've got myt audio running via HDMI to telly then audio from telly to dvd reciever atm, seems ok atm.

what games did you buy - you need forza and modern warfare 2.

gamertag is wez130 if you want to add.

I thought it a bit strange that now the 360 has HDMI not to include a cable:confused:

Fortunately I had a spare and connected mine to my receiver via HDMI, works great:D

Mine came with the composite cable when I got it (second hand about a year ago)

My little brother got an Elite today and it only came with standard RCA jacks :( (although he does only have an old CRT TV)

When I originally bought a PS3 that also came with no HDMI cable, pretty normal for electrical items to not come with the essentials. Like a kids toy with no batteries included, annoying but expected.

Can anyone confirm that my xbox will have sound if i use HDMI cable between xbox and tft monitor with HDMI input and built in speakers?

I have somehow got to find a way to connect them to my Creative T6100 surround sound speakers

Yes HDMI carries sound so you will be ok.

I've checked the spec of the Creative T6100 and they don't appear to have an input to connect to the 360.

I remember hacking the plastic cover from an official component lead so that it would fit next to the HDMI lead for use as an optical breakout only.
