The Official Motorola Milestone Thread

So do we know when this will be available on a pay monthly tariff? :)

*Edit I see T-mobile have it on a £49.99 tariff :(

The deal on Expansys is VERY good, someone sell it to me

I like my little pulse but I want more. Does anyone here have the Milestone? I'm concerned about the processor speed as it's more or less the same as the Pulse and that lags at times. Battery life is also a concern.

I've had mine a few days and I'm in love. Not finding it laggy one bit, it's smoother than a babys bottom! Battery life on the other hand isn't too good at the moment, having to charge it once or twice a day but I am using it a lot, browsing, checking mail, playing games etc...I have also read battery life gets better after a week or 2.

nice going mate!

a word of advice, Android's really developed to take maximum advantage of Google apps - i strongly recommend you get a Gmail account, they're genuinely better than MSN/Live accounts.

oh yeah, there's no official MSN client, but i think that Meebo IM is a good substitute
would a google account be sufficient or is a gmail acc really necessary? i've set up my hotmail email ad to be a google username, so i can use it with google calendar - is this gonna be a problem on an Android?

Don't worry about the processor speed. much like in the days of the Pentium 4 versus AMD Athlon, it is all about the architecture.
The processor in the Milestone uses the newest ARM Cortex A8 architecture which is ~2-3x faster than the ARM 11 architecture (used in the Pulse, Hero, G1 etc) at the same mhz.

The Milestone should be much faster than the Pulse.

yes with a but, you have paid apps and protected apps. protection can be enabled on free or paid apps.
google has to whitelist phones/firmware until this is done you won't see protected apps.

EDIT i should also add it depends on your carrier, uk sim and you'll be ok but if you have one from a country that doesn't have paid apps you won't get them.

Without wanting to trudge through 10 pages of threads on this, is there any news on when milestone might be available through the normal carriers?

None whatsoever. So far, none of the UK networks have even heard of the phone.

The guy at orange retentions had to google it when I told him why I wanted my PAC code :D

It could be a similar situation to the N900 - I was chatting to a few sales assistants in November about this phone and none had any information (even though you could pre-order it from Nokia)

Vodafone, for example, now has it listed on their "Coming Soon" section but it's only just appeared!

possibly, but it's been picked up by other networks in Europe

What's the TMobile 'unlimited' data like? What kind of fair usage limit is there?

Seems to be about 3Gb from what I saw earlier this month.
We moved and had no BB connection.
Got a text message on both phones (G1s on Tmob) stating we had used over 80% of our fair useage allowance.

Also maxxed out a 3g pen lol

Fun times :(

Keeping my eye on this motorolla as I think I have a few months left before upgrade.
