My mate is selling his computer (for a profit I might add) and he offered me one of his recently purchased 5870s for 310 quid. Is that a good offer? I was recently planning to go down the xfire 5770 route, being unable to find another reasonably priced GTX280 to sli (I'm upgrading to I7 too, so getting an SLI board is a possibility).

Bearing in mind that 5870s are still damn expensive, should I go for it?

I really don't get how that's still £10 over what they were selling for when released. The trend is for prices to go down over time, not up...

I was shocked that ATi put up prices, I wouldn't have bought my 5850 for any higher than 200

Im pretty sure the majority of the price hike came from distributers and retailers knowing that the ones that could get stock by offering more could charge a much higher premium.

give him 300 quid if u want it.

You actually don't sound as though you're fussed about getting a 5870 - so it may be that you're the one doing the favour here. It isn't a great price for a second hand 5870... what warrenty will you be getting for your £310?
Personally, I'd look around and buy one new for nearer £300 - even if it means a short wait.

when you say £300, are you also including VAT which can be well up to £50? if not, well 310 isnt BAD at moment, considering how high in demand they've been. can be cheaper i'll admit, but i dont think prices will drop for a month or 2 yet. so question is, can you wait 2 months for this beast?
