BD Live, is it worth a Homeplug

Hi,

I've just joined the Bluray club (Sony BDP-S360), as all my network kit is upstairs I'd have to buy a homeplug setup. Are the features of BD Live worth the £70 ?

any opinions would be appreciated :)



Ps I know I can get the kit cheaper elsewhere ;)
 
IMO I think it’s a bit of waste. However, on the flip side you may find some people enjoy these options.
 
I don't think I've ever used the interactive features on a DVD let alone a Blu-Ray. Depends on how much you will use the features if at all.
 
Do you watch all the extras on blu-ray? if yes then you might like it.

Otherwise no..

However home network plugs are great and can be had for under 1/2 that 2nd hand. I will never go back to wireless.
 
+1 to the comments above. The only reason I had my player networked was to update the firmware and if I get the new lg to stream from my pc to. I'm fortunate that the lounge shares about a metre of wall in a corner with the study so running a cable was easy.

Yes they are, generally twice the performance of the equivilent speed wireless. (IE 54mbps wireless average speed 14mbps after radio protocols and error correction removed, while homeplug 85mbps for example, retains 40-45mbps of usable bandwidth after the line protocol and error correction systems are removed)

And yes, im not just talking about bad radio signal, even with wireless kit in the same room, with perfect radio signal, they still have so much data carried for channel swapping and error detection and correction that you are unlikely to ever get much more than 25% of the connected speed when transfering files on wireless).

Homeplug AV is sick fast, if you cant get a real wired ethernet, Homeplug AV is the second best thing @ 200mbps, with really great final throughput.

my 200mbps homeplug gives me a real world 30-40mbps... (still better than wifi 54g, but not as good as wireless N)

Perhaps your home wiring isnt as good as mine, as I got 45mbps throughput from 85mbs homeplug! Rewired the house with Cat6 now though, so just use gigabit ethernet everywhere :).
 
mybe, who knows for sure (its a 6 year old house). The old place dropped as low as 20mbps, so not unique. Not slating them, just found they werent upto the job of 1080p streaming
