Interesting car, £1000, GO!

Original Mini? You'd probably only get a 1l version for that price but you wouldn't regret it :p

My current mini cost £1400 and is a 1.3, and has cost £20 on "non consumables". Consumables however have been rather more. They cost money to run.

Every mate who has ever had a mini (ranging from early 80's cars to final run) has used the word money pit.

What about an MX-5?

£250 (i bet your can get it for £150) 2x doors and a wing will set you back £150-£200 in the right colour on the forum.

I am assuming this has no structural damage but for £300-500 it could be fun.

That'd be right on the money although the insurance on a 1.9 may be out of reach. Seen a couple of 1.6s on PH though that look reasonable and definitely considering them.

MR2 I'm sure I'd stick in a hedge, although I have spent the last 3 years on high powered motorbikes so I'd like to think I wouldn't. Can't be sure though.

I actually like that AX... They're on the list!
Hi, if the 205 is a little much to insure, consider the 309 GTI. Try a quote, you may even be able to insure it as a classic car which seems to help...

They seem a little rarer than the 205's, but many owners say the handling is a little more predictable than a 205 on the limit... ;)

If my 205 went bang, I think I'd be tempted to hunt down a nice 309...

309gti, more chuckable than a 205 and you have room to fit the 3.0v6 from the 406 coupe should you feel perverse. ;)

Or a gti6-s16-mi16 can be fitted easily for a few hundred, i got myself a mint miami blue 309gti on ebay for a £500 3 years ago, 71k on the clock

Gen 5 Celica :) Pop up headlights, rally history (ok it will be a ropey GT-4 but should get a very good GT) how can that not be interesting :P

4th gen prelude vtec also is very cheap in the UK, 795 quid on autotrader I've just noticed, no brainer at that price imo wouldn't even consider stuff like Saxo's or small pugs with a nice nippy coupe in that price range.

Though I missed one of your posts: I see insurance may be a problem for you :( ? If it's not the insurance then in my eyes someone would be insane to pick up a small basic Saxo VTR when a prelude vtec with climate control, cruise control and 4ws can be had for 800 quid.

Well, insurance isn't enormously bad, I ran a quote on a 106GTi and it came out at £1100, I'd just like to keep it reasonable if I can. I only passed my test this month and my bike no claims obviously don't count but I'm 25 which helps a lot and I live in a reasonably good postcode.
Some good shouts so far I shall be investigating several :)

No tax or MOT, starts and runs perfect but breaks may need attention.
:D.

The seats still look superb though for such an old car, and it looks awesome outside too.
This will probably cost too much to run :(.

205 GTI is incredibly cheap to insure as, even the 1.9, as they are regarded as slow these days :D

Try Sky or Adrian Flux, you will be surprised.

Not the best example but I have seen nice ones go for a grand. 130 bhp, 800kg, close ratio box, engine that revs to nearly 7500 and pulls right to redline. Will be great fun, a 16v'd rallye would be better but you pay a lot more due to rarity.

Or if insurance is too much, then even a regular 1.4xsi will be great fun :) My 1.3 rallye is amazing fun even if it does have only a shade over 100hp.
