What shall we call the next decade?

Well as it was the Nineteen Tens, Nineteen Twenties, Nineteen Thirties etc in the 20th Century, so it should be the Twenty Tens, Twenty Twenties, Twenty Thirties etc., for the 21st Century.

Yes. There's nothing to see here people move along.

The only reason people got their knickers in a twist over 2000-2009 is because 'the twenty-hundreds' does't roll off the tongue so well and although you might talk of 'nineteen-hundred' no one talks of 'twenty-hundred' They are more likely to use 'two -thousand' . o you could argue the 'naughties' should actually be called the 'two-thousands'.


Also , does anyone else get annoyed when Americans say e.g. 'two thousand four' when in the UK it would be 'two thousand AND four.' That really grinds my gears. And also they say 'thou-sand' rather than British 'thous-and'..
 
2010, the noughties was a stupid name.

Because people made ****ing stupid jokes, the sort of thing that gets thrown about at a 40th birthday party by sad old fart who think they're really funny and introduce themselves as "Hi i'm gerald and I'm a bit mad" when really they're boring ****ers.

I think I got away without once having to refer to the current decade as the naughties in normal conversation. Don't see why I can't do that for the next decade too. Twenty tens would be the most natural to me though.
 
What's going to happen with UK licence plates also? If you bought a new car at the moment it would be something like "AB59 CDE" or if you bought one in March 2002 it would be like "AB02 CDE"... But what will happen in 2010?
