best bang for buck black and white printer

Some sort of low end laser would seem to be the ticket for you!

Personally I prefer Samsung at this price point.

Quick printing, black and white only of course, but hey, who really ever needs to print colour (really?) unless photos are your thing, which clearly they aren't.

I bought a Samsung ML1610 about 5 years ago for around £50, I got about 2 years out of the toner that came with it, then I re-filled it with a kit that cost a tenner. Got another 2 years out of it, then recently bought an unbranded replacement cartridge (the toner can be refilled ad infinitum but the roller loses its ability to hold charge after a while) for £15, and its back to being good as new :)

So that's 5 years of reasonable print load (admittedly I'm not the heaviest user ever, though that does include multiple copies of two thesis'!) for £75! That is what I call bargain printing!

EDIT: Seems the latest incarnation has gone up a bit compared to what I paid, cheapest I can find it (The Samsung ML-1910) is £65. Still, that would be where my money would be going, no inkjet out there can touch a laser for good quality, fast B&W printing
