New Fiesta PCM (ecu?)

Unfortunately dealers do have a habit of saying "replace" when anything throws up an error code.

Just hope it does fix it for you. With stuff like this dealers really do have you over a barell as theres way it can be done cheaply. Assumiing that the actual module itself is faulty, and its not some other fault.

If it doesnt fix it, and they're blindly charging £650 to fit expensive parts in the hope it fixes it, the strongest of complaints will be in order.

Ive spoke to the dealers that sold it to me - they maybe covering some stuff, esp if the find my letter i sent.

I paid for an hours extra labour for them to check the wiring - hopefully that wasn't somebodies incredibly long tea and fag break!

as an example of the typical dealer incompetance, my Vectra currently has the emission light on. This is down to an air leak in the intake system. The air is leaking out slightly, which is causing the air mass meter to read incorrectly.

The ECU then gets the fuel / air mixture wrong and under fuels the car. This results in it stalling and generally running rough.

I know the fix is to grovel around under the car, and find the leak and tighten the pipe thats loose. Somebody else has the same fault as me, but because its under warranty they've been replacing lambda sesnors, boost pressure sensors and all sorts trying to fix it.

They've literally just looked at the code and went looking for stuff to replace. If they'd taken their time and done some diagnostics, they could have worked out whats wrong, But because the customer isnt paying they're billing vauxhall for loads of stuff under warranty hoping to stumble across what caused it.

I need mine fixed too, but dont have any ramps to get properly in the car. And i dont trust trolley jacks so im going to have to take it to a garage :( Dreading them trying to tell me what they think its x sensor etc..

Spending that kind of money on a car of that age, to me is just mental regardless. Never owned a car that new and never had to spend anything near that fixing it. Infact never spent more than £50 to 'fix' a car.

Your pretty lucky then tbh.

Had a hgf on my 106 - needed the skimming and stuff. £50 you say?

Gearbox and clutch went on the golf - another £50? Think not.

It's very rare that something like that goes. Have you not got any friends that work for Ford? What you need is something called an 'IDS' tool. This will allow you to do your own diagnositics and even reflash the ecu yourself...

No mates that I know round here are mechanics - if I was back "home" in lincolnshire I probably would be ok. I assume Ford would have tried something simple like that though?

I had the old EAC Failure and exactly the same syptoms on my old 52 plate fiesta, was the throttle body cost about £300.00 to fix from a main stealer.

So if it is that sounds expensive.

To the OP, If i was you i'd learn abit more about cars so you dont actually get ripped off. "dealers" are called "dealer stealers" for a reason.

So after being completely fine since I got it back in Jan, coming back home from Brum the other night the ECU light starts popping on intermittently and the the car feels a little down on power, limped it home and dropped it off at Ford today, though not the same error codes as last time, its only firing on 3 cylinders now :(

bugger!

Just heard from garage

Misfire on cylinder 4 thanks to the htlead coming loose and causing something todo with a "coil" being damaged and needing to be replaced.

£250 - which ain't as bad as I feared

have you thought of getting an additional warranty for it just incase something else happens to it. my fathers got the top aa package and as long your away from home and the car breaks down theyll pay the first 475 towards any claim. he got paid out for an injector that went in his car. the price for the aa pack is around £150 but you can get about £60 quidco cashback
