rule of thirds
I really like those mate, well done
I can add to this thread as I have the exact things mentioned in the title together!![]()
TaIt's the Sigma 70-200 f2.8, I was testing out the servo focus. I need to test it out on a tripod as I'm not convinced I've got the sharpest lens, it's pretty soft really

Ta, they are a cheat as I've boosted the saturation, but I like 'em![]()
How do you rate the auto focus speed of the sigma HSM? Is it comparable to canons USM?
Doesn't really do much for me I'm afraid, so I rarely bother with it. I have done other crops of these though. I'll stick them up when I get back to my comp, if I remember.
I dont mind the pictures, theyre sharp, theyre clear, nicely coloured. But the do nothing for me
But having the subject in the rule of thirds makes a big difference

I'm guessing he was using the centre AF point (the only cross-type on XXXD cameras), it's just the best way of tracking something that moves, especially if it's fast and unpredictable.
Fair do's each to their ownPersonally I don't see how losing part of picture to adhere to a "rule" improves anything really. In the case of these anyway. Certainly I have done it to other pictures to make them more interesting, but in the case of a solitary item\background, meh
I did do other crops of these but only uploaded one:
edit: I'm uploading another which I preferred over his one. I aim to pleaseI would actually be quite interested in seeing any crops you feel do improve the picture as I'm always willing to learn new tricks if need be!
edit2: This is the other:
