Is ebay worth it anymore?

I have a phone that I want to sell, and after seeing that muzuma ect will only give me half of the true value the only place I can see to sell it is ebay. I have bought things over the years, but it seems that the place is now teeming with fraud and problems. I just want an honest sale and decent buyer that won't do all under the sun to try and rip me off. Not too much to ask, is it?

What would you do?

D

It never has been worth it in my opinion. Well, maybe it's had its fifteen minutes a few years ago, but before that it was rubbish and it's rubbish again now.

High value items will always be a risk regardless of which medium you use to sell it, be it ebay or the loot.

Don't send it to anyone with 0 feedback. :p

I've had the unfortunate job of selling phones on ebay and similar sites that let you sell goods before and in all honesty I'd never do it again. Dealing with idiotic customers and fraudsters making you life difficult just drive me up the wall.

I guess it's the luck of the draw, I've sold plenty of stuff over ebay including probably over 20 mobiles and never had a single issue.

I've been wondering that myself for a while. I recently sold a DVD boxset on ebay for £65, I got charged £6.50 in ebay fees, £2.40 in Paypal fees and I had to cover the P+P expenses myself as ebay force you to offer free P+P, that came to £4.40 for the cheapest recorded delivery option.

That's over 20% I've had to pay to sell my item on there, which quite frankly is ridiculous. I might be mistaken but I seem to remember ebay final value fees used to be a lot closer to 5% and of course in the past you could charge whatever P+P you wanted. I prefer to sell things on forums these days.

It was fine from the early to middle part of this decade. I picked up some expensive lenses from all over the place, sold a few as well. But now stopped selling and I just use it for the odd small purchase.

eBay forcing you to offer Free P+P because 90% of the other listings offer free P+P in that category; takes the absolute biscuit... that was actually the last time I tried to sell anything on eBay.

You're pretty much covered for anything via Paypal. Nothing to worry about.

LMAO!!

I hope that post was written with a huge amount of sarcasm:D

I've sold a brand new phone on there, I found the best way was to be as honest as possible in the advert, take good pictures and when the winning bidder has won the item, use the ebay form to get their contact details and phone them to clarify things like postal insurance, how they are going to pay etc.

Anything you're not happy with, just refuse to sell. Its worth a negative comment (which you can write a reply to underneath anyway explaining the situation) than being scammed.

I just sold a laptop on eBay, made clear I'd delete any bids from buyers with crap or no feedback and got a buy it now sale within days.

It's all good if you set the ground rules and make sure your sale goes to a good reputable buyer :p

Paypal gives seller protection as long as you provide Paypal account page with the tracking info for the posted item, Paypal can them confirm it was delieverd and signed for and thus you are protected against a chargeback or claim of non receipt.

I really hope you're joking.

OP, i'd personally take the hit and just send it to someone like Mizuma. Ebay is never worth the hassle of selling anything technology related on it.

Far too many loopholes for the scammers and timewasters - and then on top of it you get raided for a nice percentage of the fee. Ebay's "reward" for providing "top quality service" eh?

Yep certainly still worth it for somethings, all depends on price. Follow paypal and ebays rules, guidelines and sellers protection. You can always do things like buy it now and cash on collection.

I only buy on ebay, ive sold a few things but its a pain and with ebay charges and paypal charges its hardly worth it.

And the line 'sold untested' is in every advert so you can never be sure if it works or not.
