I have been doing a bit of overtime during the crimbo period, money in pocket (with hole in) means I would like to spend :p

For a while I have been eying up the planet x which comes in at £900 built and delivered (currently has parts out of stock which will put the price up to near £1000).
Then I noticed the 2009 focus cayo triple Clicky which can now be had for £824 built and delivered.

Can anything think of a bike which would be better spec'd than the cayo for around the same price?

The Cayo is an excellent bike for the money. Others I would offer up are:

Specialized Allez
Planet X (superb carbon frames with ultegra group sets at the moment)
Boardman Carbon

Personally, I would love a Planet X.

The planet x is my favourite too, I think I am trying to convince myself that the cayo would be ok cause I could buy it in the next few days. Think I may just hold back and wait till I can get the px

I've got a Ribble Sportive and I love it, but given the choice between a carbob Planex X and an Alu Ribble I'd take the carbon. Love my bike, but the vibration gets to me sometimes.

I have a Cayo, and cannot fault it at all. They are very stiff frames but once you get used to them they're fantastic. Especially for the price.

I got an E-mail from wiggle over Christmas and saw the price for the 2009 Cayo in their sale:eek: I paid about €250 more than that during the year.

I absolutely love mine. Picked it up in August and I have not had one problem with it. It's my first propper road bike in years and I bought the triple.

Over here on Boards.ie(quite a good road cycling forum) the Cayo used to be the recommended bike in this price range, the Planet X seems to be popular now.

Personally I think the Cayo is a bargain at that price (I am very biased though;))

That thing just looks gorgeous!

The spec on the boardman looks really good, I just don't like the look of it, couple that with Halfords service..

The Ribble is also really nice just out of my price range though which mean's it is down to the Cayo or Planet X. £820 vs £1000, I'm thinking get the Cayo and spend £200 for new wheel's and brakes later in the year.

The Planet x is about 1kg lighter and has the better groupset but I'm not sure if that's worth £200

Then I think my current bike is 10kg, is it worth £820 to save 1.5kg?!

If you have the money then of course it is :)

One thing to note about buying on-line is that any minor adjustments that the bike will need will have to be done by yourself (Or if you have a mate that is handy with spanners) My headset needed adjustment almost straight away, and both front and rear deraileurs need adjustment as the cables setteled in. I would prefer to do it myself than hand it over to the 18Y.O. who runs my local bikehut. You could get the Boardman checked over once purchased and make any minor adjustments yourself.

The 105 brakes are brilliant and I would not think they would warrant an upgrade. One of the guys over here who bought a Cayo at the same time as me is 18 stone and he has had no problems with the wheels. They are relatively cheap Shimanos and a spare set or upgrade would probably be worthwhile.

Tough decision Jaxon, but I don't think you could go too far wrong with either the Planet X of the Focus;)

Well that's that then, wiggle have no more stock and as it was the 09 there will be no more! Thanks for the info but it looks like ill have to settle for the planet x (poor me :) )

The reason for a quality set of brakes is a near death experience on my giant while descending honister pass :o I live and ride in the lakes which has some seriously dodgy descents so a good set of brakes is a must from now on.

Yeah i bought my Cayo at the same time. Spent a lot of time umming and arrrring between the Cayo and PX. Spec of the PX was slightly better for the same price (full SRAM Red over mix Red and Force), but I prefered the look of the Cayo.

jaxon: If it's a 56 you're looking for there's still some left of the compact version.
