Xbox v PS3 - Which one?

I have both, and without a shadow of a doubt I prefer the 360. The PS3 only ever gets used for exclusives, but the majority of the time it sits collecting dust. The main reasons I prefer the 360 are:

- Controllers. 360 controllers are just so much more comfortable and nicer to use, PS3 controllers give me cramp. Trigger extensions make them just about usable though.

- Dashboard/UI. Lots of things about the PS3 dash irk me, I hate the dog slow updates, I hate the mandatory installations on some games.

Having said there is no doubt that the PS3 is the better built and more attractive looking machine, and with the latest exclusives it's just starting to show a (very) slight edge over the 360 in the visuals department.

Overall though, the 360 gets my vote any day of the week.

I had both. I sold the 360.

For me at least the PS3 wins in every department. Better games, better controller, free online, Blu-ray, quieter, better build quality, better menu system, better looking, rechargeable controllers, built in wireless...

Guess it just depends what you are after and what games you like.

Wii by a country mile!

Innovative controls that have actually brought something new to the generation rather than just better graphics and online play! Huge catalogue of games!! Amazing titles such as Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Res Wii and Zelda!!

The sales say it all imo. Wii anyday of the week!

Same for me, I never used the 360, it was so loud! PS3 has everything you need in the box, don't have to pay extra for everything, I do wish the online was better though, ****s me right off sometimes.

I own a PS3 and a Wii. Love them both. Would never bother with an Xbox personally. Only reason would be for Forza 3 if GT5 is still not finished by summer.

^ Dude...Seriously, You should have signed up with Thevillian2010, You're out of date in an hour.

lol!

Anyways, me and my partner have got a PS3 and a 360 and the PS3 is the only thing that gets used. I simply like it because I have always had a play station so I've kind of 'stuck to it' and because of the exclusives as well.

Only thing that's bad about not using the 360 is that all our friends do :(

This has been asked too many times however I will try and sum it up as follows (for the record I have both consoles)

As far as I am concerned the only reason to get a 360 is if all your mates have one, and you'll save a bit of dosh. However you will quickly lose it again paying for the xbox online service.

PS3 has far more and much better exclusive games too.

The PS3 is a better all round piece of kit, it is a better Multimedia Center, controllers aren't quite as nice as the 360 to hold but they are better to charge as its built in.

You get a very decent BluRay player and DVD upscaler which unless you have one, is a huge plus.

Someone made a really good post about it not long ago, which I will try and find! :p

Only slight niggle I had with the PS3 was the fact they dont include a HDMI cable, but this is fixed for £2.37 in Tesco :D

Found it - from here, although I do not agree with all the points, have added some comments in yellow below :p

360
+ Easy to use OS, way more user friendly than the PS3 : I do not agree with this, I think it is fairly equal and the greater depth of options with the PS3 is much better.
+ More games than the PS3, including exclusives : More games, LESS exclusives, and the PS3 exclusives are VERY good (most of them). This is really a huge point as the exclusive games are a real treat!
+ "Proper" vertical usage without the need for a stand : You dont really need a stand for the PS3 either!
+ Better warranty for hardware failures : Unsure of this
+ It can work out cheaper if you don't use online services : Slightly, and if you factor in having to get controller charging kits etc, and if you arent using the online services, you should get a PS3 anyway!
+ Allows games to be installed to the hard drive, and by user choice
+ Front plate can be altered for custom looks
+ Contollers rock for the PC, with proper Microsoft support, if you needed it
- Wireless is not built into the console : The adapters are quite expensive too
- Wireless controllers are battery powered and consoles (afaik) don't come with the play & charge kit, PS3 however does
- Some online services (including gaming) costs a subscription fee
- No BluRay addon device

PS3
+ Generally more quiet, cooler and lighter than the 360
+ Online is free for the most part, including gaming
+ Built in Wireless, BluRay and Bluetooth features
+ Much lower failure rate compared to the 360
+ Hard drives upgrades are massively cheaper since they are standard 2.5" drives
+ Bluetooth battery-free contoller, has a charging wire included
+ Some wires are standard leads and are easily replaceable. 360's are custom design and cost a lot more.
+ Paying for items over the PSN is easier than the 360 since you can use your credit card as well as buy points cards from stores, 360 only has the latter.
- No official controller support for PC (but has 3rd party) if you needed it
- Most/all games have to install to the hard drive. It's not much of a down-point since you only do it once, but it's annoying when some games takes > 10 mins before you can play.
- No PS2 backwards compatability on most models
- Smaller playerbase/less games compared to the 360 : But far more BETTER exclusive games!

I do not intend to start any arguments, the 360 is a nice console however from what I have said above I find it very hard to recommend if you are comparing the two like-for-like. :p

Good list

I don't see the big deal with that. All PS3 models have a HDD and why wouldn't anyone want to install a game? Also, with the PS3, it's easy to do as I did and take 10 minutes to fit a 250GB £38.99 250gb drive fron OcUK. Most Xbox 360 gamers would kill for a HDD at the price. Could have had 500 or 640gb but didn't really need it .....

Funniest thing i found a while back, and its not been said for a while. but i thought i'd just point it out as its on topic.

a lot of the anti ps3\pro 360 crowd used to use the fact you have to install games on Ps3 as a weakness.

But when 360 gave the added option of installing games on 360, The same crowd saw it as a Godsend and a plus for the console

:D

i just found it funny, I mean i get there's a difference between mandatory and optional. But still, I'd consider quietening that DVD drive down during mass effect mandatory.

but yeah :p

I like my 60gb ps3.
A 360 would be a bit pointless for me as my tele is next to my pc as a 2nd monitor, so I can put pc games up on it and use a 360 pad.

If you have a gaming pc then get a ps3 as the 360 will offer little extra game wise (there is not much on the 360 that is not on the pc, well compared to ps3 to pc anyway).
If you don't have a gaming pc, then get a 360 as it is the best all-rounder.

I dont have a problem with installing games either and wouldn't call it a downside at all, missed that on my yellow writing list! :p

I've got both and if I had to sell one it'd be the PS3 in a heartbeat! The 360 is just a step ahead in my opinion and feels like a more complete experience - Custom sound track in all games and cross game invites. Sony have tacked these features on with firmware updates so not all games support them.

Also the fact that almost all games released on both systems look and run better on the 360, and the PS3 controller was designed around 15 years ago! That's like Nintendo still using the N64 pad for the Wii :p

i have both but only play on the ps3 , i will only ever go on the 360 if there is an exclusive title i want to play.

in the last year the ps3 has overtaken the 360

The hard drive upgrading thing is a good point. It cost me £60 for a SECOND HAND 120gb drive for the 360:mad: I bought my PS3 from ebay and it came with a 250gb hard drive already installed.
I really hope with the next xbox that MS use universal add-ons for it rather than things that only work with the xbox and cost loads.
