MR2, MX-5 or 3series Track Toy

Thanks so far guys, no real definitive right choice it seems...

Ive been looking at Javelin trackday options and they have an MX5 and E30 325 for hire on the days, im tempted to try and book an event with half a day in each, it will cost ~£500 for the day but, should give me a good idea of which option is best for me.

How there are some serious options, thanks for them Lopéz... They are all top side of my budget, but, probably a better solution.

Whenever I see these threads I always wonder why 7-style cars aren't considered more often. If people want a racing car experience then they are far and away the best method of getting it.

Certainly worth considering, especially as we are talking no road use.

I had considered a 7 style car, the GKD Legend6, using the 328i as a donor... I just thought that a pre-built 7 style car was further outside my budget than they actually are. A Fireblade engined 7 is very appealing as my father has got many years experience with bike engines and that could come in very useful.

Why would you bother if it's for track use only?

I was making two assumptions, both that he wanted it road legal (to get it to/from track) and that he wouldn't want/be able to weld himself

Just makes it less likely to fail an mot on welding which isn't overly cheap unless you do it yourself...

7-style cars are a good idea though, far lighter and more fun than either the mr2 or mx5...

Problem with 7 type cars is that if the weather is bad you'll have a totallly miserable day.

Unless of course you enjoy putting Rain-x on the inside of your windscreen :p
