I've come to the conclusion that pub lager is rubbish

I actually, subconsciously, knew this anyway. But sitting here with some of the Young's own ales has reminded me that the likes of Fosters, San Miguel, Grolsch, hell, even Staropramen these days, taste terrible on tap. I won't go into detail about how Kronenberg tastes dreadful in every pub I've been in over the last few years. And we actually pay money for this stuff. It's appalling. So yes, it looks like I may end up an ale drinker. Call it age if you like, call it unsexy, but I used to do this when I was in university but for some reason ended up going on to lagers.

My question is, how many times do you have lager in a pub and think to yourself "actually this tastes horrible but I'll carry on drinking it anyway"? Now I come to think of it, too many to recall.

EDIT - and before some of you start bleating - "but there are far better ales than Youngs!" - yes I know, I know. But they're better than the knats' urine most of us consume in drinking establishments.

go to a pub with decent stuff on tap ;)

although i'd tend to agree. unless they've got fancy stuff on tap, the usual ****y lagers taste like.. wee :p

I get bored of the usual on tap lagers, like fosters, kronen etc. Wish there was lots more variety on tap.

Btw, can anymore reccomend any lagers, maybe something with a hint of fruitiness or... I dunno something different. I'm not clued up on it all.

My uni mate swears by london pride ale, I tried the stuff, it tastes nice, but I just dont like the fact that its not fizzy, maybe I need to try it again sometime. Just I usually stick to stuff that I know I enjoy, because money is tight for night outs !

try white beer. Hoe garden ,1664 blanc, leffe, etc. Nice and fruity and refreshing.

most lagers taste of ****. Just fizzy nothing-ness.

i work in local and its usually the pipe cleaner we use that can sometimes make it taste dodgy or if glasses sometimes dont get washed properly

my local is awesome got so much on tap!

carling makes me weep :(

so disappointing walking through the supermarket to see two thrids of the beer aisle dominated by crap lager like carling, fosters and stella

There's one place in town where everything on tap just tastes awful. Can't believe people still buy it!

I've found that a nice pub near me does Leffe out the tap but I prefer it in a bottle. As for the more common pub lagers I hate them but I'll drink it anyway. I find Fosters is the drink of choice, and I avoid Carling/Carlsberg like the plague.

Leffe tastes dreadful on tap too, yes. Bottles are always better for everything, innit.

Most bars and pubs round me that my friends and I tend to drink in don't sell anything but the lagers. I hate it. Gotta go to an 'old man pub' for ale and they just aren't as fun.

Most lager is total pee and sells purely because of marketing (Carling for instance) but if people wanna sup it then that's fine with me; just don't try to tell me it is beer!

I love real ales but now and then will try a proper continental lager, which I find refreshing but couldn't drink all night; the Carling, Fosters, Carlsberg, Heineken and Stella **** is absolute ****! how anyone can drink them, even if the lines are cleaned properly, I have no idea; fizzy extra cold pee is not my idea of a decent drink but then again, I also hate what is termed 'kebab' in the uk too ..... if it aint on skewers it's not a kebab as far as I'm concerned.

Come over to the dark side; find a good CAMRA pub and try real ale.

Leffe isn't a white beer. it's an Abbey beer and it's awesome in all its various forms.
if you can find a place that has it on tap, you're onto a winner.

These are horrific was well. Weissbier is represented terribly by those beers.
Weissbier comes from Bavaria

Hoegaarden is a Belgian unfiltered wheat beer, flavoured with spices and orange peel.
so to say Weissbier is represented terribly by Hoegaarden is a just ridiculous.

as for 1664 Blanc, never had it but it's probably **** :p

No, you're not. It tastes terrible on tap in every place I've had it. In bottles it's far better.

It isn't, I'm afraid. Most people I know, when asked if they liked weissbier, say they like Hoegaarden. And Hoegaarden is a terrible, tasteless beer. It's one step from washing-up water.
