An E Class estate is exactly 7mm longer than a 5 Series Touring.

Thats right - 7mm. I dont really see how thats 'much' bigger at all.

In Terms of getting a parking space...that 7mm would have serious implications. :p

I dunno...It just looks bigger somehow.

in the 2nd line of text, i did say in terms of luggage capacity.
it's much bigger inside than a 5 series

Yes but you dont NOT buy a car because the interior space is bigger, do you. If you dont want something 'big' it'll be because of external dimensions not the efficient use of space inside the cabin.

Seriously, WTF? Of course 'you' do?? And who's 'you' anyway?

You use 'you' as though it automatically applies to the entire human race :D.

Did you read what I wrote? I dont think you did.

Example: You might decide you dont want a Passat because its bigger than your Golf. You wouldnt, though, decide you dont want a Golf because despite being the same size externall, its more spacious inside than a Focus, would you?

You might chose a car because it offers more interior space but I doubt many discount one because it offers too much interior space - people discount cars as being too big due to the exterior dimensions.

LOL, well I apologise because I misread what you posted.

That's embarassing.

Oh no, he's done it! Build quality is an entire different kettle of fish! :p

Perceived quality and Actual quality

Discuss :)

Well i went from a E46 330i Sport to.......a shiny new Volvo V70.

Reason was i got a bike again for fun and wanted an estate as way more practical with work and daughters x, y and z pasttimes. Its a really good car. Got the R Design trim so looks reasonably sporty and just does everything well. Great inside and comfy as hell for my 40k miles a year. Looked at audis and mercs and strange as it may seem the only other contender was an Insignia Sportswagon or whatever there called as wanted a change and so did not want to go Audi. Done my audi fix years ago with a proper one, S8.

So, go try a V70 if you ask me. Maybe get them cheap now too!

I would say the new C Class is slightly better built than the current 3/5 series they also handle very well without the harsh ride of the M Sport BMW models. Mercedes seem to have come along way with the new C and E class.

the only new c class ive driven is the c180. it handled like a bag of crap. wafted all over the road.
new b class was no better!
in terms of drive, i much prefer the new 3 series to the merc!

What C180, sport?

I take it the BMW 3/5 has the better build than the Merc I mention?

No, the C class looks/feels nicer (more luxury) inside and the seats are a bit more comfortable (I am 5ft 8, slim).

I test drove the C250 CDI Blue Efficiency recently and it handled very well (as well as my coupe) and performed just as you'd expect from a sports saloon.

was a 1.6 blue efficiency.
it looked fantastic, interior was nice, but it drove like poo (great engine for a 1.6 auto though!)

dont think it was a sport, wouldnt have thought so given the waftyness. it did have the c/s button though, which seemed to make no difference.

the 250 might be, i was surprised by the c180, something like 155bhp

205bhp twin turbo, 500Nm, 7sec 0-60.

Fast enough for most?

So what you're saying is, this is a performance car masquerading as an eco model?

Not quite. Since the C250 CDI will happily pull from at least 500rpm lower than its torque peak in third, you pretty much never need to change gear around town. The 0-62mph sprint takes 7.0 seconds. But it's the mid-range response that really makes your brain melt.
