Shall I buy the 5970 or wait for the G300?

I've been out of the loop, but was wondering if anyone is waiting for it?

I'm eyeing up the 5970, but not sure whether to wait?

Hi Kaiju, hope you're enjoying the new year in HK, must be pretty crazy in Lan Gwai Fong ;)

In regards to the 5970, it is the current fastest DX11 card.

Not so sure about Fermi, nothing has been finalized, so you don't really know when you could be waiting until. The performance is not even gauranteed, if you are not in a hurry for an upgrade, I would suggest that you wait. This way you get to see for yourself the performance of the Nvidia card in comparison to the ATi range.

Well, I'm not sure either, but ATI seem to be "on-the-ball" as of late it seems, so i would go for the 5970, and you can get them for as "cheap as" £531 HERE , and should be in stock for Christmas:)

EDIT: Kaiju, what card(s) have you got at the moment?, and what res/games do you play? (i'm still chugging away on my old GTX8800)

Hahaha, you know it. HK is scantily clad ladies central. :D

I've got a 9800GTX+ running at 1680x1050 on a 22" monitor. The monitor will also do 1920x1080 funnily enough, as to why i'm on the lookout for a new card.

Just wait lol not long left. Couple more months then we should hear abit more.

Iv bought a 5770 and useing it till the g300s come out. If there better and cheaper ill sell the 5770 and buy 2 nvidias. But if there worse ill just buy another 5770.

I'm also in HK at this moment and was thinking of getting the 5970 but is it worth getting since I have a capable 4890 anyway?

The only advantage I can see buying it over here in HK is that you can get one for just under £400 or the 5870 for about £250.

If your current graphics cards is performing pretty well, why bother to buy a new card?

Otherwise, its either splash the cash for the best or get the best bang for buck (that is a choice only you can make).

At present I'm happy with my GTX260 and that is playing at 1900x1200 on a 24" screen, when it starts to struggle I'll upgrade, or I can wait till it breaks and send it back to BFG :p

Go for the 5970.

I ordered mine 3 weeks ago. Judging by the reviews, it will do the business.

No fanboy here, currently got an 8800 Ultra SC, been very happy, but, its time for a change.

Will see what NV comes back with later on in the year, but I suspect that my 5970 will suffice for the next year or two.

Good luck on whatever you decide, its all about your own decision at the end of the day.

Wait. When Nvidia comes into the market, chances are ATI will lower their prices.

True, that’s what I am doing. My 4870 in crossfire is doing me fine until NVidia releases their new cards and ATI lower their prices.
Never know ATI may release a refresh of the 5970 round the same time. Even better reason to wait.

You should never wait, a couple of months is a long time in the computing world. If Fermi(and its a big if)is better than 5970 then it wont be by much. Buy that big sucka now and enjoy it for the next 2yrs. No use waiting there is always something else just around the corner.

I personally would wait if what you currently have is serving you well. Another thing is, there are hardly (?) any DX11 games out anyway right? Also, i'm not sure how important PhysX is to you? I've seen demos with and without it and there seems to be quite a large difference.

I'm not sure what ATi's solution is with PhysX but i'm sure someone in the know would be able to comment.
