Islamic protest march planned for Wootton Basset

I don't think that many folks think that these folks are representative of most muslims, they are just idiots who want to cause tensions, I don't think religion is a genuine part of any of it

My first thought was that they're the Muslim version of Westboro Baptist Church.

I think religion is the whole of it, in both cases. So much religion that it has pushed out thought, decency and everything else good in a person.

is it religion though ?
if there was no religion would they not hate the soldiers for killing people of the same colour as them ?

It's not colour based, it's them protesting about the deaths of innocent civilians due to the occupation/involvement of the West in Iraq and Afghanistan. At least that's my take on it.

I don't think we can deny there's been a lot of civilian casualties, let them have thier march, just don't pay any attention to it.

Best thing the residents could do is turn out and show the same respect for this march, I genuinely don't think they'd know what to do if that happened. :p

ive got many friends who are muslim but i dont know any that would agree with this BS

I have to agree. I have several Muslim friends and none of them support anything of this kind. I'd like to make the point that being a Muslim doesn't mean you can automatically be deported... there are some British people who are Muslims and this is their place of birth.

At the end of the day I try not to get too wound up by these groups as I see them more as an equivalent of the type of group the BNP are: talking loud but the majority couldn't give a toss about.

******* deport the lot of them.

I think it's people like the above who simply assume the actions of a few to be those of the many and it's this very kind of ignorance that leads to the hatred we see in so many areas in the UK. I can't tell you how it should be solved. It disgusts me how people can be so cold towards a particular religion.

That entire site is insane, it literally boggles my mind that a group of people can think the way they do.

I am usualy relatively open minded and fine with religion but islam is messed up. I'm mean I'm not saying I have a problem with all muslims because I don't but damn I can only be so tolerant before going "Sorry, no, **** this, you're INSANE".
Should read SF for some real entertainment :p

All that needs to happen now is the BNP to launch a 'counter-protest' and the collective IQ of Wootton Bassett will be reduced to single figures.

When the 'vast majority' of these wonderful people start informing the authorities who the nutters/extremists in their communities are, I'll have some tolerance and not treat 'em all like primitive animals.

The yanks interned quite a few Japanese in 1942; many of whom were US citizens.

I detest all the religions but not equally. Islam is currently the religion that inspires the greatest harm to the human condition IMO so it's at the top of the list as far as my disdain for these Bronze Age superstitions goes.

I don't hate Muslims, to me they are the greatest victims of this terrible philosophy. The idea that from birth we should 'submit' to the will of some supernatural entity, or face the consequences, is a terrible thing to impose on people.

Shocking behaviour and highly inappropriate, but then so are most of the English defence league's protests, and we do have reasonable freedom of speech in this country.

Vocal minorities claiming they represent more are the real problem...

line the streets with backs turned on them ?

Line the streets with T shirts depicting

The sooner normal 'non-blow my self up for some crap written in a book' muslims take firm, vocal, headline catching opposition to extremism the better

Reading through some of their material, I disagree with many of their proclamations and proposals. However, they have a voice, and a right to be heard. To denounce their freedom of speech, and for me even if it's inciteful, would bring us down to the level that they want us to be.

It's obvious that they play on people's emotions and instincts. As someone else in the thread has said, we should imply ignore them. It's unfortunate that they've chosen to protest in a town that the media has made synonymous with our casualties of war in recent years. It's going to unnecessarily make a lot of people upset. But, we should leave that upset at sadness. Use the opportunity to again commend the efforts of our individual armed forces members, and use the go-ahead of this demonstration as exactly the reason why. The opposite would simply not be permissible in a radical Islamic state. We should relish our freedom. Their protest has a certain irony.
