Hi,

How much are the base imac and base macmini with uni discount?

I wanna sell my PC rig and get a mac, it will stop me gaming (not that I am addicted) I just am sick and tired of my PC.

I'm hoping to only have to put £300 ish to the imac, if I can sell the following:

Q6600
Crossfire board x38
4 gb DDR 2 ram
2 x Samsung SSD's
2 x Asus Volt Tweak 5770
250GB Seagate drive
Track ir 5
Logitech Steering Wheel
Windows 7 Home Premium
Gigabyte P35-DS3R
24" VA panel DGM monitor.

and probably some other stuff I have forgot. Might sell my ps3 as well.

I ain't gonna go linux as I will more than likely get the urge to start gaming again.

A rambling post I know... I have just realised I have wasted the last 5 years of my life with the news that my stinky friend from school has got engaged. All I have done is been 'pro' at CSS. :/

Help me!!

Good move, games truly are a waste of time. So much more to do out there.

The normal prices are:
* Mac mini From
£510.00
* New iMac
iMac From
£969.00

The student prices are:
* Mac mini From
£459.43 -10%
* New iMac
iMac From
£853.05 -12%

I suppose there isn't really anything major they can add to them, maybe blu-ray, but what will I do with that?

I already have a blu-ray player.

hhmm slept on the idea and now I'm thinking £850 is a lot of money for a core 2 duo laptop, in a desktop form.

I already have a better 24" va panel monitor. I dunno, why is the imac so good?

Maybe I could keep my monitor and run dual screens? :p

The quality of the screens on the new iMacs is second to none but why not look at a Mac Mini and use your screens on that.

yeh I have been looking at them. It just seems a little skimpy, 2GB ram 2.3ghz dual core. 160gb hdd.

I hear they're a pain to upgrade.

The imac has an ips screen, 500gb hdd and 4 gb ram plus a 3.06 dual core.

Seems the mac mini is overpriced, considering what you get.

Well I think the higher spec unit isn't too bad, it's biggest problem is the macbook though, for a bit extra you get a screen and, well, it's a laptop...

How easy is the latest imac to upgrade the ram and hdd?

I.m just thinking that in the next 5 years 500GB isn't going to be enough. I would like the option to upgrade the hdd myself.

EDIT: hhmmm having thought about it, HDD size shouldn't matter to much as I can just upgrade capacity on my linux server.

It's not, at the end of the day it's a PC with a different OS but almost identical hardware. You're simply paying for elitism, if that's important to you then fine, pay through the nose for the privilege. I have to use one on occasions at work and I tell you it ain't nothing special.
