Is ebay worth it anymore?

I hate people who list stuff with faults incorrectly.

A while back I bought a faulty Acer laptop, it said it had a faulty DC Jack. Replaced the jack and it still didnt do anything!! What a waste of money, got a fraction of the money back from selling bits of it on there though.

If I were you I would try and sell on a forum first. I dont know if the MM here lets you sell phones but many forums do. I dont know the rules with regards to linking forums but if you google "audio visual forums" you will find a site that had a great classifieds section on its forum.

Because not everywhere can you place pictures, not everywhere has a large audience, most of the public do not feel secure with Bank transfers but do feel secure on ebay.

Computer stuff I would always sale on here. But things like phones, furniture and miscellaneous items. You will get far more on ebay than anywhere else. I think the last thing I sold on there was an oppo DVd player. Couldn't even sale it on here for £60 got just over a ton for it on ebay. I've sold 2 cars on ebay far above what I would have got otherwise.

Hmm fair enough. Could be the luck of the draw I guess and in how much demand the item is, and what it is. I've only ever really sold dvds and second hand computer bits on there.

Do you write a great deal in your descriptions at all? I leave mine with just the bare essentials and nothing else.

As much detail as is needed, plus lots of pictures, just use html and an upload site to avoid paypal picture fees. I always do buy it now with offer.

Only ship to paypal confirmed address' or cash on collection.

I have a phone that I want to sell, and after seeing that muzuma ect will only give me half of the true value the only place I can see to sell it is ebay. I have bought things over the years, but it seems that the place is now teeming with fraud and problems. I just want an honest sale and decent buyer that won't do all under the sun to try and rip me off. Not too much to ask, is it?

What would you do?

D
Something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it, I'd be tempted just to use muzuma if there price difference isn't that huge...

You don't use auctions? How do you get more than you expect?

Interesting, I stopped using imageshack a while back and just use the one free photo given by eBay.

If you're selling a phone, go to CEX. You'll get less money than you would on ebay, sure, but they're not going to attempt some Nigerian scam on you.

By putting it up for a lot more than I want, but it does depend on item and what others are selling it for. You can always accept offers. I've only had one item which hasn't sold and thats an BNIB car sub. But it wont even sale on a car audio forum either. I don't really want to wait 7 days to find out ho much I have sold it for and many people don't want to wait 7 days to find out they have lost to another bidder. Buy it now with offer is the best method IMO for both seller and buyer.

I've sold like 200 items on eBay the last 2 years with very few problems.

The way I see it you will always get what someone is willing to pay for items on eBay, so even after the fee's are taken off its still most of the time more money then you would get say if you sold the same item at a boot sale.

I sell anything too good to be at a boot sale on eBay. If its high value, say £50+ I will only use a buy it now listing as the eBay fees most of the time are 10% up to £50 then 5.25% after that i think.

The low-value junk I save up until theres enough to do a boot sale. If it doesn't sell at the boot sale most of the time I end up going to the rubbish tip on the way home, so I never bring any of it back home :p
