Out of the two a Nissan Micra and Vauxhall Corsa, both around the 2000 year models, is the better car. Both are Auto, the Corsa being a 1.2 and the Micra a 1.3? Which is the more reliable and more safer car.
Thanks in advance guys :)

Micra all day long, realiable as hell, its got a good engine (16v twin cam, chain driven), both are about as safe as each other really, they are small cars.

The micra also doesnt have the chav image, but it does have the doddering old fool image:p

I would choose the manual, but thats more a prefrence. Plus if its your first car, be worth getting used to it. Just my 2p.

Do they still do the CVT in the Micra? that was meant to be a reasonable auto box for town driving.

Mind IIRC the Corsa comes with a funky semi auto aswell?

the car is not for me, but for a female friend of mine. She can only drive autos due to a medical reason. It will not be her first car either.

Micra, but both of them will be very dated cars. Both the Clio and the Corsa that were sold in 2000 were basically models that came out in 1992.

I don't know if the Autos are any good, but if I had the same brief as you I'd be looking for an early Skoda Fabia (not a Polo which were an older model at the time). This will however be more costly.

However if I needed an Auto I'd be going for something a bit larger.

pricewise.. she wants to spend max £2000. I have found 3 cars that she likes the look of, which are 2 corsas and a micra.
She does not want a big car. Previously she had a honda civic, which she thought was big for her.

Is this for the new shape (K12) or the older shape (K11)? If it's the older K11 shape then £2000 is far too much, can understand if it's the K12 though.

K11 is probably more robust (the K12 shares a lot with Renault Clio), there's something about the idea of a Renault Automatic transmission that fills me with fear.

Also the K12 might well be almost as big as the OP's friend's current Civic.

micra. i knew a guy with one years ago, he gave it hell and it didnt miss a beat. i drove it a couple times too and it was good chuckable fun... we were only 19 at the time though

and it really was a revvy little thing and it drank absolutely nothing, but the chuckable fun part is really what stuck in my head

as far as i know someone in their family still drives it, i still see it around and its N reg
