What's happening to clans these days

Well you get guilds in MMOs kinda like clans :P

But going on to clans, there was a boom in console clans with Halo2 and Halo3. A lot of tournaments and stuff and loads of people wanting to get in on the action as the prizes were big and the sponsorship deals were not bad.

PC gaming still has many clans but with the likes of the new MW2 and the way the match making is done you don't really get to see clan servers or anything.

Still plenty of CS:S clans going.

Also in regards to the clans I know a lot of clans from experience just do private matches amongst them selfs or against select other clans.

They're probably all on consoles and most clans are on MMO's.

I used to run a clan, and grew a community (500+ members) around it, but those days are long gone. There are still clans around, but PC gaming and the games that make clans useful are slowly losing the player base.

Nowadays, the most clan like thing is a regular group of 5 or 6 or us that play team vs on l4d2 most nights, but that's as far as it goes. It is amusing for us with our random names and stuff to get thrown into a match with a team with tags and stuff on, only to absolutely destroy them :)

There are a few less than there were, but there are plenty of good clans out there.

Mine plays BF2 & L4D2. we got our own dedicated BF2 server, 28 members who ALL play the same for the server / webby / Vent. We even got 2 ladies!

Members from all over place.

Check us out :)

Might have a look actually, BF2 might be a good laugh, plus nice to know some nearby members

I've been in a few clans, most were quite disappointing but one was great while it lasted. Average age over 30 with enough kids to form a cadets section. Made lifelong friends there but, alas, cheating broke out and the pretty vicious arguments finished things off.
Don't think I'll easily join another but I really miss the clan matches.

My old clan isn't as active as it once was, but there was a lot of fun times with matches and general gaming on the server we once had. Clans can sometimes be difficult as others have pointed out sometimes there can be disagreements and the servers and websites need funding and maintaining, which can take up a fair amount of time.

I was kicked from the only clan i've joined (on Call of Duty 4) for hacking just because i was actually good at the game. Taught me not to bother, i only played a couple of clan matches but the regular game is more enjoyable.

Id like to play in a clan on MW2, i played in cs:s for a while with a clan and i love MW2 also pretty good at it. i think you get a better/differant playing experience if your with the right group of people who put a lot into teamwork.
Hoping BFBC2 will be good for clans and ill have a shot in that, havnt played a BF game for a vey long time.

Thing is with clans you have to decide. Are you going to be a community clan or a casual competitive clan or a competitive clan. Competitive clans go under a lot of stress when you have 1 or 2 players carrying the team. These people that carry the team end up getting frustated and leave the clan and that clan breaks up. Have seen it happen so many times.

^^ this guy speaks the truth i can relate.

We we're trying to run it primarily in TF2 and L4D2, I would have liked to of added BF2 but I'm wondered if it's past it's time now, but as been said, consoles are most likely the killer or at least had a substantial affect.

Why would you play l4d2 in a clan?

The randomness of spawning order makes it a bit iffy for competitive play.

I would agree, had that before in teams.

The team was initially a TF2 team, but my friend wanted to do L4D as we put one server up and it was maxxed out 24/7, had people sign up to the site, but that was it, never posted or anything

you cant beat a good clan match, specially a very close one, first map 10-10 then all goes down to last round of second map to win or draw /draw or lose, vent becomes so tense, can almost feel it just thinking about it. ran two clans from mohaa>cod4, now we just play as a grp of friends with tags on really, lack of time, lack of new game to grab us properly (thanks mw2 lol).

we did find with cod4 however though that recruiting was difficult even though we were all 20-24ish, signed up to a few leagues, med+ skill, well organised, plenty of matches, seemed there wasnt the player base of un-clanned good players there was in the early days of cod1 + 2.

Untill you been in a good clan you dont know how fun clans can be and what good mates you'll make from being in one. long live clans
