Acherly, I only use my headlamp when it's dark.

-7 C this morning, no problems in the snow and ice on my motorbike, well, it did take 20 minutes for my throttle cable to thaw out before I could set off.....

Lovely sheet of ice across the main entrance at work, straighten up, no problems. Park my bike up and one of the secretaries arrives, slides across the ice and knocks over the gatepost , cheered me up no end.

Barely! Most sidelights are like candles in a jam jar. Why people don't just flick the switch that one bit further and use dipped lights is beyond me!

I think he might have meant that they only use their sidelights as opposed to their main lights. Lights are a real bugbear of mine as I see too many people driving in adverse conditions without any lights on at all. Some people don't seem to be aware that even though they might be able to see out, without lights they become that much harder to see, silver/grey cars particularly in inclement weather.

No, i meant sidelights. Foglights are annoying, but not half as bad as people make out. People that drive around with sidelights on thinking people can see them are annoying AND dangerous.

I had to pop home at lunch to pick my car up and on the way back was stuck behind someone driving an Isuzu Trooper at under 30mph in a 40 zone with clear roads, as soon as I hit the small dual carriageway I accelerated up to 40 and left him standing. On the other hand, when it was quite bad in my area last year I was plodding along at 20mph in the village as any faster and I could feel my car start to slide, the car behind me got bored and flew past me, the back end of his car was trying to catch up with the front end

North Essex nr Colchester. However, this happens everywhere. I just don't understand why people don't just turn their headlights on fully (dipped)? Why ONLY turn on the rubbish "good-for-nothing" sidelights? As far as i'm concerned, "sidelights" should just be for when you've parked up to dash into the Post Office or something, not for when you're driving around when it's getting dark in the winter.

I see, I got the wrong end of the stick, I thought you were having a go at people who use their sidelights during the day. Sidelights at night tho, I can see why that is a little crazy, in fact I some times see people pull out of petrol station with no lights when it's pitch black, which can be a little... interesting... when on a push bike!

I know exactly what you mean, I drive a small dark grey car, it's a similar colour to light tarmac, and the amount of times people don't see me is pretty shocking...

I think the problem here is people fitting aftermarket kits to cars which use reflectors and not projectors...

Aye there is a loophole. HID's, fitter as an after market addon are fine to pass an MOT, but the police can still pull you over for them. When i get home from work i'll see if i can find the info that explains it.

I drove behind some retard who obviously had all his fog lights on when it was clear as day, I think he wanted the fronts on but his car was either rubbish or he flipped the switch too far.

I don't see the problem with 35w <6000k HIDS (which are already quite blue) as long as they are fitted to cars with projectors. They don't blind and are more visible when it is light outside.

Fog lights don't generally blind me either, after all they are pointing downwards...

Winter tyres would be great, but at least make sure you have some decent tread on what you have!

I see old land rover discoveries sliding about worse than any fwd car - I guess though when you pick one up for a grand your not going to drop the same amount again on tyres, then they wonder why they're going sideways all the time.

I have to say, less of the random 4x4 hate, there is nothing wrong with the vehicles, it's a lot of the people that drive them that are the problems (like Audi A4 2.0 diesels ).

I am damn sure BMW never said, 'hey! you can drive like a clot in this X5 because it has 4wd, with the added advantage of making you immune to mother nature ...y0'

4wd vehicles can be really great in the right circumstances, when used properly, and most of them now are perfectly fine road cars in their own right when not climbing mountains. The problem is the moron in the drivers seat 99.9% of the time.

I was going to make a thread on this last week. I've never in my life seen as many retards in 4x4's driving in such a cocksure manner in terrible driving conditions. They seem to exhibit the old "Haha, be gone with you standard car minions, I shall breeze past you in my fit-for-purpose machinery!", not realising that whilst they may have more traction when putting power down, they're actually more likely to end up in a ditch as the cheap Kwik Fit special tyres on their lardy, momentum filled SUV which they remortgaged their house to get, break traction.

Same here, all driving Mitsubishi Warriors and Nissan Navaras about half an inch off my back bumper.
