When i get home I'm going to order the following:

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
£234.99 (£199.99)
Iiyama ProLite E2407HDSD 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor
£163.99 (£139.57)
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail
128.99 (£109.78)
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9)
£91.99 (£78.29)

Asus M4A785TD-V Evo AMD 785G (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard (Ordering from an alternative site due to lack of stock at OCUK)

Is the motherboard, CPU, Memory and graphics card all compatible?

I believe I have a 650w Corsair PSU but I will double check before ordering

Just need some reassurance before taking the plunge!

Everything is fine there, the latest batch of ATI cards have a low power consumption, so the 650w psu is fine.

Thanks Wes, Having read my signature (lol) it appears its 620w not 650w, checked the Sapphire website however and it says 600w for Crossfire so i think I'm safe

Just doing some last minute checking and noticed that the motherboard i plan to purchase (from another site) may not support the memory fully.

Below is the motherboard i plan to get and the Asustek website for the specification.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-355-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1481

http://uk.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=fcsXWSxnhzZE9rnR&templete=2#

It states that it supports 1800(O.C)/1600(O.C)/1333/1066

Does this mean that native 1600Mhz memory will not work? or wont be recognized, I don't want to order the wrong memory.

I have checked the supported memory list and it lists a very similar memory but the product codes are different

Plan to order - CMX4GX3M2A1600C9
Supported - CM3X1G1600C9DHX

The memory will work but at reduce speed, to run at native speed you need to overclock the system.

Thank you for the prompt reply. Now I'm going to ask a difficult question :D

What kind of performance hit would the 1600Mhz memory take, would it still be faster than 1333Mhz?

Personally I doubt you notice any difference, I have gone from 800mhz to 1066mhz and not noticed any major increase in speed, only time you might see is when benchmarking the memory.

Its a system built for gaming so Memory is an important part of that system.

Would you suggest going for some 1333Mhz then? for example:

Corsair 4GB (2X2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMV4GX3M2A1333C9) [CMV4GX3M2A1333C9]
£74.58 inc VAT

Would save me around £15

What do you think RJC (or others)

P.S what part of kent you in

Are you looking to overclock the cpu, In my mind I would go with the lower speed ram, as the cpu is the Black edition you can increase performance by raising the multiplier and you would not touch the system BUS.

It will worth seeing what other have in mind:)

From Dartford, you? :)

Edit: Have you thought about a different motherboard, ie this one from Gigabyte which takes 1600mhz ram

I Hail from the far east.....of Kent near Margate

Not really much of an overclocker but I like to keep the options open (reason for going for an Xfire board)

Again the 1333 memory I linked to is not listed on the motherboards supported list it might be the list is out of date, Can't even find that memory on Corsairs website.

The description suggests its not XMS3 the picture does, so I don't know lol :D

== Edit ==

That motherboard is out of stock, its in stock at the site I was going to get the other from but they want £101.96 for it

What about this OCZ memory http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-109-OC&tool=3 it got favorable reviews

I see what you mean regards the Corsair memory on their website!

OCZ ram seems to have good reviews, I originally went with OCZ ram for my i7 build and ended up with 2 lots of faulty memory, now running Patriot Viper without any problems.

My Ultimate choice would be with the Corsair memory, but the choice is ultimately yours, as I had bad experience with OCZ many others have not :)

'Sigh' this is a merry-go-round if I ever saw one :D

So I have 3 options without spending more than £70-90

1. OCZ/or others - Don't really know them and RJC has had 'Issues' :)

2. Corsair 1333Mhz - Will work out of the box but only the Value version is in my price range (The XMS3's are £102.99!)

3. Corsair 1600Mhz - take the performance hit and get XMS3's for £91.99

Personally I'm favouring my original choice of option 3. What would be involved (if anything) with getting them to run? Would i need to go into the BIOS and underclock the frequency or would it run at 1333Mhz automatically?

Haha :D I think I need a drink

Go with option 3 and overclock your system to run at native speed or keep at lower speed.
The memory will run at 1333mhz when first booting.

RJC and others like him are what make this community great, if I'm ever in the Dartford area and I bump into you I'm buying :D

Just finished ordering my parts, thank you very much for all your help. If the memory does not work I'm blaming you ;)
