If there is already a thread discussing this then please point me in the right direction!

As the title suggests...I cannot decide which to buy. Does anyone have any advice? My main concern is sound quality since I have a good pair of Shure's and want to be able to do them justice.

Thanks in advance.

Think I'll probably go for the Sony but need to find a decent price(i.e. <£200). Don't know how they can get away with charging £230ish when an itouch 32gb is only £210 nowadays!

What about a Cowon S9?,I was looking at the x1060 but got put off by the price a bit.Think I'll prob end up going for the Cowon

The Cowon looks pretty good actually but seems to be the same price as the Sony unless I'm looking in the wrong places? Anyone tried both?
Reading about the Zen's lack of dedicated volume controls and rubbish firmware has definitely put me off.

Check out the head-fi forums. Most people will contend that at the moment, the best sounding players out there right now are the Sony X1000 players, Cowon S9 and iPod Touch 3rd gen.

Any chance you've compared it to the Zen? Ideally need to know if the Sony is worth the extra £50!

I previously owned a Zen Vision M 60GB, which even after updating the firmware continued to crash on a regular basis. Put me off creative to be honest. Now all the Sony players I've had over the years have been fine.....;)

i suppose if the OP was looking for a 3 year old player with a hard disk in it, you might have a point.....

Well how about wording your reply as such?

"The newer Creative all suck donkey balls. That is all."

Which is quite right :p

I had a few older creative players and while they sounded great every one of them broke of developed a fault. The newer creative players are nice, I've used a few, but they don't sound as good as some other players. They sound good tb fair. But just not not as good as the very best players.
