Overconfident 4x4 drivers in snow

I guess the step that you haven't yet taken is the assumption that most people who drive such vehicles overestimate their abilities in adverse conditions. Nobody's saying all people who have one are like that (and you are allowed to buy one, I won't hate you), but you have to admit, a lot are. That's what this thread is about.

Point taken in that regard, yes a lot are like that I know. Ive met a few of them :( ...then again it doesn't matter what they drive, they'ed be the same.

Hehe, then they'd be darn BMW drivers or godforsaken white van men or whatever they're in there's a phrase.

Been to Carlisle & Back tonight, had a good laugh passing a stranded 4x4 in my six axle artic - the 4x4 driver looked puzzled... Scania's traction control is superb.... :)

Feeling smug, I got back to the depot (1am), jumped into my car and went home,it was throwing it down with snow, no traffic, roads whiting over.... struggled for 15minutes trying to get up Kidsgrove Bank in Kidsgrove, 100yards from my house! :o All that way in the HGV without an issue and then nearly get stuck outside my own house.

Thats bloody typical crappy RWD BMW's for you! :o:D:D

On the night before x-mas eve it started snowing while I was heading to Stoke, I got over taken by a 4x4 (I was going slow-ish) only to see him again a few minutes later, in the wall

So far Birmingham hasn't seen any snow of any real bother but it seems it's catch up time now - coming down thick

God knows how my gay RWD BMW is going to get me home. :(

Curse of the BMW owner - a few days a year you just know you're going to get owned by the snow.

what, gay rwd?

your bmw will see the snow, MTFU more than practiaclly any car on the road and proceed to drive you home properly sideways, the entire way, whilst sptting flames

All this assuming I get get out of my parking space right? :D

and the statement about people with a 1k discovery not wanting to spend on tyres is rubbish, many are enthusiasts ...

Clearly not off road enthusiasts or even car enthusiasts. I saw 3 cars having trouble, one mondeo and 2 disco's, no other car so much as slipped (it was only melting slush after all and very slow moving).

I'd put that down to tyres.

I was just commenting that having 4 wheel drive, even one as competent as a discovery, is not the be all and end all.

One of the guys here has a Honda CRV and it's absolutely crap in the snow, it's 4WD when it wants to be 4WD - jesus why do people bother making cars with part time 4WD? Utter rubbish, by the time the 4WD has kicked in it's too late and the moment is lost.

never mind 4x4 some idiot in a merc almost killed me the other day :|

i started walking over a road and then he indicated to turn at the last minute so i had to stop almost half way over the road. he came around the corner and for some reason floored it on a snow road , his back end went sideways and almost swept me off my feet

Because its one of those super-gay lifestyle 4x4's, which means you can prance around telling everyone outside the school gates you've got a 4x4.......

They are everywhere around here, cant drive for five minutes without someone in a range rover getting right up my backside trying to force me off the road.

It's ok, you can laugh

Just seen this first hand 3 cars were lying on a roundabout with minimum damage and a Discovery beached on a traffic island.

I stopped to ask if they needed a hand as the only car that appeared to be stuck was the Discovery. A blank look came from the driver when I went have you got the diff locks on. I had a look and they are now all computer controlled a quick flick to a snow setting and gentle prod of the accelerator (automatic) and it reversed out with no wheel spin.

He was basically going to fast for the corner and went up the island the cars behind him stopped and went into the back of each other at low speed. A quick lesson to him that a 4x4 doesn't mean you can go any faster than anyone else and he know knows what the dial does on the center console.

Well to most people a car is a method of getting from A to B. You push the pedals and turn the wheel to operate it, thats it.

Not suprised really, the country is full of morons.

How to people manage to do that on straight roads? I always see cars upside in ditches on perfectly straight roads.
