Dragon age origins - How do you unlock the starting backgrounds?

Hey, well ive not got too far through the game as im like level 13 i think so i don't want any major spoilers. But i was wondering why all the backgrounds but a few are greyed out for me. I figured after getting someway through the game i may of unlocked others but i havn't. Do you have to play through the entire game and then a few will be unlocked then play through the game on them?

If you mean like Human/Dwarf/Elf Warrior/Rogue/Mage Noble/Peasant backgrounds, those are all that are available. For the most part I think rogue/warrior backgrounds are the same, and humans only have access to the noble background and of course Dwarves don't get a mage background.

Human Noble

Got this for christmas, and just got around to installing it... looking forward to playing it

I thought there was 5 backgrounds for each race. How dissapointing.

Six backgrounds is still pretty good. I've played the human noble and dwarf noble so far and they're both radically different.

Yeah, you have to make a dwarf character then you get access to the 2 dwarf ones
Elf for the 2 elf ones or magi if you pick a mage
human noble for warrior or rogue, and magi for mage.

Dialogues through the game differ, I think quests are basically the same.

I'm assuming here by "Backgrounds" you might mean "Classes". In simple RPG terms: the backgrounds are races. You can play any background, but not all backgrounds can play all classes. In addition, some of the classes are locked until you make a particular story-line choice.

The DA:O Wiki should help with who can play what, and how to unlock the other [Specialisation] classes.
