Just wondering whether i should get an anti-static wrist band before i build my rig.....

Do you build with one? or without?

For my first build I did. It basically just got in the way.

About 20+ PC builds later and I haven't used one since then. I haven't had any problems, I just touch a grounded radiator (an unpainted part) before starting and everything is fine.

i use one, old habits die hard, at my first job would have got sacked for not having one on when testing :(

Meh, I don't. I always make sure I release any static by touched an unpainted metal object in the case. Not circuitry of course though, lol.

They are cheap, so might as well be safe than sorry!

if I was not building my own, building for a client which I m planning to do i would indeed use one, or get one

for a job, than defo saying that I didn't at work experience back in 05

I unplug everything then press the power switch sometimes it does turn on for a split second

Also, apparently, with PSUs that have the switch on them, you can press that off, and keep the cable in. This keeps everything grounded.

Makes sense, but don't take it as gospel.

But yeah, pressing the switch uses any remaining power left in the capacitors. Although these would deplete pretty quickly anyway.

just install the power supply, and have the cable plugged into the socket and input on the power supply (switch the socket off), and every so often touch the case. that way you are grounded without buying a anti-static wrist band

I use one when I remember to, it's so much easier than leaning on the case or holding onto a radiator.
