Apple conference....

I see a stock drop if the tablet isn't announced this time round.

I'll be all over it, if it can run some tidy media centre applications. I'm thinking of one as a whole house automation control :D

To be honest, what else is there? Apple have already shown a willingness to spec bump things recently without media events. It's the wrong time for an iphone update. Which leaves tablet announcements.

I'm undecided myself, a multitouch tablet for media and internet sounds appealing but it'll be too big to use as a substitute for a iphone and too limited to replace a real laptop. It'll surely cost more than an iphone and likely won't be so operator subsidised.

To me it looks like a £600+ device I won't use often enough to justify. I'd love something bigger than an iphone to watch some tv series on while I'm on the train in the mornings and read some news articles - but not at that price unless it's got some very special extra functionality.

I'm really hoping for a spec bump on the 15" Macbook Pro's as I have been waiting since early December to get one.

I must say that Im not entirely hopeful that we shall get one, the rumor mill definately seems to have gone dead on the MBP update, aswell as potential issues with what GFX they shall be using :(

But who knows, fingers crossed we'll get one, sooner rather than later. :)

Would be cool to have a slot for your sim card. Doubles up as a conference machine of some description?

It'l certainly be £600+ though. And people will buy it. Ykno it must be so nice to have a fanbase that will buy whatever you make. Apple offices must be the most laid back in the world!

Tablet.

Macbook Pro CPU - Intel do a Quad core 2.53 mobile CPU, and I thought the Macbook Pro was meant to be top of the range?

And of-course, Blu-Ray ;).

Tablet to replace the remaining MacBook line now that there is only one left in it and a price drop on the MBP line.

Fastest I know off is 2Ghz standard speed (i7 920XM) and it's TDP is higher than any existing macbook pro processor, the 720QM with an optional upgrade to 820QM is far more likely. Apple have demonstrated a willingness to spec bump without events recently so it might get folded in but that's not what the event is about.

I don't have spec's handy for the new i5 mobile chips, but they carry their own problems (as do i7 to an extent - no nvidia graphics available, intel gfx are rubbish so it's basically going back to discrete gfx only on the macbook pro line.

Core2 Extreme QX9300 (12M Cache, 2.53 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB) was what I was thinking of but after trying to compare it with the Core i7-920XM (8M Cache, 2.00 GHz) http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=43122,43124,43126,36727, my head hurts! So will bow to superior knowledge :).

I wouldn't say superior knowledge, the i7 should be quick (integrated memory controller etc) but it's somewhat irrelevent, the core 2 line is old hat, Apple wouldn't put one in a laptop now (or more properly, if they could, they would have long ago).

I'm expecting an awesome apple constructed toaster, that burns the apple logo onto the toast....but wait for it.......on BOTH SIDES!

Now thats something I'll buy!

:p

I'm betting for i7 processor upgrade on macbooks - iTablet announcement - and possible new iPhone software update

If the rumors are true, then there still needs to be groundwork before any new product is released...

  1. New iTunes
  2. New iPhone / Xcode SDK
  3. New iPhone firmware

Usually with a new product line these are released shortly before (Xcode could launch simultaneously), so I'm guessing if anything is coming on the 27th then it'll get pretty interesting in the next 2 weeks. You can bet someone will scourer the lines for new IDs and strings.

Thats true....last time I heard about that was for the iPhone 3.0 OS I think....but really hasnt their just been a large iTunes update, or would it just be a smaller update they bring out?

Im really curious about the Tablet, I dont need one, ive got my fill of Apple goodies still, but some of the things they can pull out of the hat with that could be very exciting.

It would only need a small point (9.0.6) update as it wouldn't add much. They could even push it to 9.1 if they included some significant section or feature, like they did when Genius launched.

I'm guessing/wishlist:

* iSlate tablet with updates to iTunes and the SDKs to support it.
* Cloud based applications so you can work directly with MobileMe as a document/services repository - this would integrate with the iSlate.
* HDMI 1.4 support so that iTunes film content is streamed encrypted to your TV and/or Amp if it supports 1.4.
* 1080p support across the board in iTunes content this is to combat the pressure for Bluray.. including AppleTV supporting 1080p.
* SIM slot for all laptops so they can tie into increasing data network usage.

I don't think iPhones will get an update. Any updates are for the iTablet which it wouldn't surprise me if it had a SIM slot for mobile data communications.

I still don't think they'll ever adopt Bluray because it's a bit of a dinosaur with Sony pushing HD 1080p films from the cloud onto the PS3.

Could be good news for me... I'm hoping for a bonus in February (fingers crossed for exam results later this month) so I'll be taking a trip to the Apple store to spend a large chunk of it.

Except most of the rumors say an announcement at the end of January but not shipping for a couple of months after that...
