iPhone now officially unlocked by O2

A friend of mine bought his iPhone on O2 PAYG and got a 12 month simplicity contract to use with it.

We did the unlock request last week and he got the unlock text today, I didn't think they would do it but I guess he does have a contract with them still, pretty cool.

Got mine unlocked about a week ago now. I bought the iPhone 3Gs on PAYG when it first came out, I had the 3G on contract when that came out and they unlocked the 3Gs even though it isn't a contract phone. Good stuff!

Received my unlock successful text this evening from O2

I actually bought my 3G phone from a guy who had just finished his contract and had recently upgraded to a 3GS.

Wasn't sure if I'd get a problem with O2. Either that I'm not the original purchaser or that I'm on a 12 month simplicity contract so they would charge me £15 for the unlock.

Fortunately it all went smoothly, no charges and Vodafone and Orange (that's all the sims I've got lying around) work fine. As people have said you only need to drop in a different sim once and connect to itunes for the unlock to go through to Apple. Then it's just a quick sim swap afterwards.

Ideal for Orange Wednesdays ;)

Got my 2nd text yesterday and finally working well second time around. No idea why it didn't work first time. Using with work vodafone sim. Awesome.

When the phones been officially unlocked and you use a different network sim,Do you always have to connect it to itunes first before you can use the new sim?

Or can i just change sims on the fly without each time connecting to itunes?

Thanks

Yay! Got my unlock message through from O2, even though I was already using an Orange SIM and had no contract with O2 for about a year.

Yes you can change on the fly. It's only the first sim change that requires itunes.

One thing though, when I put my O2 sim back in I had a enter the data settings again to access the net (changing data.o2.co.uk to mobile.o2.co.uk). They had defaulted back to idata.o2.co.uk.

Guys,

Have filled out the form a few days ago, had the phone turned off overnight and this morning it has deducted my balance by £15 but the phone is still locked.

Is there anything i need to do or should it be unlocked?

Thanks

You can get an Orange Wednesdays app that generates codes (legit) :)

You still need an Orange SIM card in your iPhone unless you happen to be an Orange Broadband customer. It's not going to work with an O2 SIM card in the phone, the app doesn't exactly make this clear up front.

No you don't actually.

All you have to do is type in your Orange Phone Number (PAYG Sims work) and it'll send a PIN Code vis SMS to the Orange No (just put the SIM in another phone or use your unlocked iPhone). Type that PIN into the app and you never need to use the Orange SIM again. It will just generate a ticket each week, even on o2.

It mentions text tickets cost 35p each but I've had £1 of credit on the SIM and generated over 5 tickets using the app so it seems to be free once you've entered the PIN.
