My lame "What car to get next" thread.

S3 a possibility. Tell me more.

Ok now I'm in a slight predicament as personally I hate em as it's the shopkeepers weapon of choice around here. :D

I'm sure there will be a fan of them along some time soon to do their sales pitch. :o

DC5. either push the budget a tad or get an older one. its not like you have to worry about them being unreliable...

you have the fun factor readily available, yet its still quite spacious with a reasonably sized boot and quite economical outside of vtec. CTR is very good VFM though and whilst not that different.

how much are clio v6s now?

from what ive seen, the 197s really arnt that special. my old golf has been all over them like a rash in the past, they really didnt seem special. a 182 on the other had would clean the floor with me.

This would be down to the driver though. Apart from outright chuckability the 197 is the better car.

There is absolutely no reason why a well driven 197 couldn't 'clean the floor' with you just like a well driven 182.

Op - Whast about the older Focus RS?

The R26 is a good shout although watch out for the usual electrical issues (Mine went through 6 coil packs in 4 weeks, 2 drivers window motors, central locking issues, starting problems (linked to coil packs)). Also watch out for the diffs ability to drag you off the road at every pot hole (overtaking a cyclist - crossing the white line - is interesting to say the least). On the right road though it was fantastic (better than a 197 in this respect).

what about one of those megane turbo things?

I wouldn't bother with the clio V6, would be a horrible experience if anything ever went wrong or broke..

it's a leon with 4wd and better seats, but will be older.

the leon isn't ugly!
if that's you're only reason to ignore it then boo to you
you can get them up to 2006, very tuneable and solid.
plus you can get S3 seats in them if you want :p

although if i had the choice, i'd probably get an S3..

Still, the best cars in here are my shouts ;)

To dismiss them because they're chavvy and your wife is a cop, well then you're missing out!

Are you thinking of using a bike rack with these, or taking the front wheel off to get it in? I dont know how big of a consideration that is for you.

MKV Golf GTi.

Good build quality (actual, not just perceived ), plenty of space (bigger than an S3), decent handling (more fun than the S3 imo), better ride quality than the S3, more brand appeal than plastic tat from the French or Wapanese, occasionally a really good one comes up for £8.5k...

The tartan isn't that bad in person and if you have a major aversion to it, hold out for one with leather, e.g.:

Good spec, listed for £10k (though no mileage is mentioned).

8k for a trophy just seems too much considering a 172 cup is nearly as good and they're 3.5k, with, albeit, less than glamorous seats.

Have you driven an evo? I know you've said it's a bit chavvy ala EVOW TYYME and not quite up to Porsche build quality but with your very low mileage, it might just be worth taking one a spin? If nothing more than to cement your decision that you don't want one.

That's assuming you like to drive your cars, not polish them :)

(It was you with that pristine MR2, wasn't it? :D )

I wouldnt look at an ST tbh, the big 2.5t upfront doesnt really make it chuckable, not like a Hot Hatch should be.

Megane F1 thingymajic would be my choice if you only do limited miles, or the quickest LCR they did.

However, the ST is actually less nose heavy than the Mk V Golf.

What about the latest Civic Type R? May be a push for 10k but I presume that the Type R is also fitted with the "magic seats" which are perfect for the bikes.

Roof rack would be best, I need to transport 2 bikes at once so putting them in the back would be a squeeze

They managed to make a newer one that was worse than its predecessor! Impressive stuff from Honda.

It's not all that different from real world people who have gone between the two. The difference is one is made and sold as something more comfortable when it aint.

You wouldn't get a bike in those too. I struggled for height with my bike in the breadvan CTR and the FN2 has a lower roofline at the back. Easier with a Jazz.

CTR is awkward for fitting a roof/bike rack without damaging it too.
