Hey,

We're travelling to the Alps at the end of the month using Eurostar. I was wondering if anyone to give any insight to if they provide free food/drink during the day or night trains and how comfortable the seats are? Is it beds for the overnight train?

Thanks

Good information on this site - http://www.seat61.com/ski-by-train.htm

Only if you pay for Leisure Select (1st class).

Decent seats with plenty of leg room even in standard class, no beds on the night service though.

I've heard a lot of people say to give the overnight trains a miss if you are serious about your skiing/riding. As they often tend to be full of groups doing a weekend jaunt to the Alps, who drink and make noise all night.

So if you are actually going with the intention of getting a nights sleep, ready to go first thing in the morning, chances are you are going to be tired and disappointed.

Flying is still cheaper, and after the debacle of my sister getting stuck in the Channel Tunnel last month, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

I went via Eurostar to Le Trois Vallee a few years back, from what I remember it was fairly comfortable in the seats and the service itself I've got no complaints about, no free food or drink from what I remember though but I don't think they've got any problems with you taking your own on.

Having flown, train/altibus, and driven, I'd choose driving every time these days.

Infact, I'm setting off on Friday.

If you book far enough in advance there's not much in it in terms of cost, especially if you factor in the effectively unlimited baggage allowance. And for me, it's definitely a more relaxed way to travel.

Aye, I got stuck in Paris for 2 days on my way back from the Alps, but I'd still use Eurostar in future. Flying is just as susceptible to adverse weather conditions.
