Goodyear Eagle F1 useless in snow or just me?

The last 2 days it's took me 10 to 20 minutes to drive out of my road, and I live at the top of the street.

My car is a Saab 9-5 Aero, being Swedish I expected it to be ok, fwd with a heavy engine it should be fine, right?

Our Integra had no problems, the 3 cars that drove passed me had no problems, so why did 3 people have to push my Saab up the road?

Is it the tyres? They are half worn Goodyear Eagle F1, I would understand if they were bald.

Think I will use the Teg tomorrow :(

The ones on my Prelude are fine.

I say fine... they still spin like **** in this weather and it's been taking me 20 minutes to shift it off the drive but that's no worse than any of my neighbours :p
 
My Potenza RE050's are rubbish in this too. I had to get 5 people from work to push me out of my parking space the other day.
 
My Conti sport contact's have been so so, I seem to have had more difficulties than most other cars around my estate with grip :(
 
Directional tyres don't really work in the snow, the tread gets clogged up so they fail to grip the road, grip is made even worse due to the tyre compound, its simply opperating in conditions that are far to cold for it.

Probably, but they aren't mega wide. 225.

The car is fwd and weight is over 1600Kgs, I didn't expect this trouble.

A people carrier passed me on the more snowy side, I think she may have even gone up a curb in it.
 
...what do u expect?! any tyres are useless in the snow unless theyre specific winter tyres like Goodyear Ultra Grip Performance or Vredestein Wintracs. 4 wheel drive isnt completely necessary either in the snow
 
Your best bet is to get winter tyres, in the long run they cost no extra as you are not putting wear on the summer tyres when using the winter ones. A lot of people incorrectly assume they are for use in snow however they are for use in temperatures under 6-7c where summer tyres performance drops off dramatically. In Scotland that will result in about 4-5 months usage a year.

I have ordered a set to see how they go. I decided to down size from 18"s to 16" steel winter wheels which drop the width from 225 to 205. It was cheaper to buy the wheels and smaller tyres than get a set of 18" winter tyres it also helps preserve my alloy wheels which are prone to corrosion.
 
Yep, the F1's on my Teg are absolute dire in the snow! As has already been mentioned, it's because they are directional. The tread just gets filled with snow and then you're essentially driving on slicks. Plus the rubber compound just isn't suited.

Sod getting a second set of snow tyres though, I'd rather just use the wife's car or use public transport (where available)
 
i was wondering about eagles yesterday... i came unstuck twice

i put the tyres on before xmas. i drove upto cheshire, had to deal with tons of ice and had no problems

yesterday i came unstuck twice. one terminal underqueer situation and then on the way home i couldnt stop from 2-3mph and just slid past my own driveway

when i had the 18s on the audi, they were using nankangs... they werent that bad in the snow at all haha
