Jonathan Ross is leaving the BBC

It's obvious that he was never going to be allowed to be himself again on the BBC, I would doubt it was financially motivated. Why are so many people in the country so concerned about money and famous people's salaries?

Probably 'cos we're all skint!:D

I suspect you're right though,I believe Ross is a genuine bloke despite his riches, and if he does feel as though his style is being cramped then he'll waver the cash and walk. Good on him I say,I hope he pops again soon somewhere on our airwaves, turning the air blue and sticking it to the establishment!

I have never found Jonathan Ross to be funny or entertaining and that goes way before his radio prank with Russell Brand.

I find him irritating to say the least and his guests make his show, not him. His arse kissing interview style is grating to say the least.

He is one of, if not the most overrated and overpaid person in British entertainment.

Ross is complete crap on it. It gets cringeworthy watching him suck up to people and it gets even worse when they are on his Friday night show and he sucks up to them some more. They should just give it to Mark Kermode or somebody who actually knows about films.

Ross is a bit of a film buff you know... Didn't you ever see "The Incredibly Strange Film Show" 20+yrs ago? :)

...in your opinion (of course)...

Can I ask, if Ross chose to instead be more critical of his guests, do you think he would attract even half of the high profile names that he does?

Are the American chat show hosts any different? Are they buggery.

Wossy is all right but I'm worried about who they could get to replace him for film 2010, for some reason my brain just keeps shouting Charlie Brooker, even though I think he couldn't do a truly serious review show any more since he has stylised himself.

Who cares what chat shows are like in America. It's not so much him needing to be more critical, but it's the 'oh i loved you in xyz' 'i loved you in abc' blah blah blah, bend over please I'd like to kiss crawl up your ass some more, is what really gets people. The show has always been about him telling his guests how much he loves them. You do occasionally get a good interview when he doesn't resort to bum licking.

Chat shows get massive viewing figures in America. Thus, to be successful, it's natural that Ross would emulate the hosts from across the pond.

And it worked.

Well it's funny how most of the American guests on his show comment on how different it is on his show than back in the states. :p

And America has a population more than 4 times the size of the UK so they obviously have a bigger potential audience for any show.

I totally agree. But then I think more or less all celebrity talk shows are utter trash anyway, but it's even worse because I find Ross to be totally unlikeable.

I meant large viewing figures as in percentage of the population. Or at least that's what I assume from picking up bits of info here and there. I mean, a lot of us know of Jay Leno. I wonder how many Americans know of Jonathon Ross.

We may have heard of Jay Leno, I doubt many watch him from the UK. Culture in the UK is and has been growing more Americanized since the 90s. We will have heard of all these chat show hosts, films, actors, etc etc rather than the other way around. Ross doesn't model himself on American chat show hosts nor should he give a crap if anyone has heard of him in America. Obviously quite a few do otherwise they wouldn't be turning up on his show. He recently copied a skit on some chat show in America a few months ago and they brought it up on the chat show the following month in America. :p

Oh come on guys!
Hes hardly going to be rude to his guests is he!
If he started going against the grain and rubbed them up the wrong way, i very much doubt he would get many A-listers.

And most of them do know who he is (aswell as other shows) thanks to the BBC being available over there.

Top Gear is pretty big over there!

I like his film review show. Kermode would be a good replacement though.

I don't really get the "we pay their wages at the BBC" argument. You don't have to, just don't buy a license, simple (not aimed at you).

I have more of a problem with the type of programmes they broadcast, most of which are done simply to compete with ITV, which sucks.
