Bit of a strange one.

I rang up Sky today to order Sky HD (Have Sky+ Already). When I was looking before Xmas they had an offer for a free box and a £30 Installation fee, obviously that offer has now gone and am kicking myself.

Anyway, my question is, if I threaten to leave, say something along the lines of "Virgin media have better deals, so on and so forth", will they offer me a better deal?

Has anyone got any experience with this themselves? Reason I ask, I don't want to ring up saying I want to leave and they just turn around and say, "OK, I'll get that done for you."

well... my boss rang up yesterday and asked the same thing and they said if you want to leave no problems so they are not bothered it seems

Ring through to retention and threaten to cancel, the best the can do is 6 months half price sports and movies and or free HD boxes with £30 intall. The offers also change and bear in mind the guys on the phones are on targets, they need to keep you as a customer, but also remember that their income depends on how much they knock off

I'm in new sales so I convince people they need to spend more than they do, retentions job is too keep you on it;)

Lovely! Thanks very much for that! :).

i used to work for sky and the last thing they wanted was people going to virgin.
if you say that your ready to go to virgin they will do more or less anything to make you stay with them
i did free installations with an extra remote.
that was when i worked for them last year.. things might of changed though

Try this if you have a partner. Worked for friends of mine, might work for you too.

Whoever has the current contract rings up and cancels the subscription in their name.

Then your partner rings up as a new customer asking for HD. When they say you already have it at this adress just say that was my ex's and he/she is moving out and that you want to take it out in your name. My firend told them she wa getting divorced and their husband was moving out, no questions were asked!

Not a bad one actually.

On a related note, does this work if you don't want an "install"?

For example, I've set us up with Freesat HD already which uses exactly the same Satellites as Sky, so would literally just need to be posted a Sky box and Sky viewing card. Given that I managed to align the dish to a small flying box 24,000 miles away I would like to think that I'm capable of plugging the box in without an "engineer" coming!

I did this, but bought online about a week after my parents rang to cancel the subscription. Plus if you go through Quidco you can get £65 cashback, though it was £100 when I subscribed in November.

I just phoned up sky, as i'm interested in returning after moving.

They are doing free unlimited Broadband with HD+. When I phoned I was also offered, a free box and free install :D.

The guy came today to install it. Unfortunately my Sky card hasn't arrived in the post yet so can only watch 1,2,3 and 4. Bit annoyed but nothing I can do except wait :(.

Plugged in my optical cable to my receiver, itching to watch HD movies :D.

Yeah, seems strange. I rang last Friday so should have really turned up, he said if it hasn't turned up by Saturday to ring and complain. He states it rarely happens, I'm sure da_mic_1530 could shed some light :).

I rang up for my dad and the agreed to do the new sky + hd box and install etc for a one of cost of £30.

That was as low as I could get them, but it is much better than the £99 they wanted.
