What do we think the chance of a given Easyjet flight will leave Gatwick tomorrow?

I'm meant to be flying to Geneva tomorrow, on the 1:45 Easyjet flight. A friend of mine is also driving, leaving at about 5am. Given that they cancelled most of their flights yesterday, are cancelling a whole bunch today, and the Beeb reckons that tomorrow we'll have 'Light snow', what's the chances of tomorrow's flight being cancelled?

Easyjet are saying that they have no idea and won't be able to tell me until mid-tomorrow morning. By which time my plan B (jump in friend's car) will have already left.

Do I risk it? Do I say "screw them" and get in the car?

Seeing as the weather is fairly constant just now and our ability to cope with it isn't getting any better, I'd say your chances were slim mate. I wouldn't risk it.

Edit: remember to pay your mate a share of the petrol!

The runway is open however there is a lot of delays and canceled flights.

The best thing you can do is to contact the airline before you leave for the airport.

We did just get another light dusting a few minutes ago though.

Good advice from Justin.

Call the airport if you can before 5am tomorrow. If it's not likely to be taking off then go with your friend. If it is likely to be ok then you can decide whether to risk it or not

Call the airport before 5am and you'll get an answering machine. call Easyjet if you can find an non premium line for someone to look at the airport website and tell you they just don't know.

Flying sucks in this weather airports are turn up and see mostly. Also it depends on where your Easyjet started that morning. Just because it ain't snowing in Gatwick doesn't mean your flight will take off from its previous destination.

I didn't think the airport would be open tomorrow morning. Easyjet have no phone number and state on their latest cancellation page that they can't give out any information about future flights.

Thing is, if I miss the flight, I'm properly screwed. Hmmm.

Bit of snow 3 days ago, and the country is still at a stand still 3 days later

Don't be naive.

Heavy snowfall combined with record chills over a prolonged period in a country that rarely deals with these conditions so does not have infrastructure in place to handle it as it would not be worth the investment.

We don't have heated runways like in Finland and Norway so of course air travel will be hampered.

There has been little to no snow over the last 2 days, so any snow would have been cleared by now from the runways.
Yes ice is still an issue, but again not on the scale of causing such huge delays.

You think they are delaying/cancelling flights just for fun or something?

I don't know about you but the London area isn't really that badly affected, a couple of inches but that's about it and nothing for the last couple of days.

Coming from someone who had a flight cancelled a few years back at Luton due to snow I can tell you that they were off and flying (although delayed) that afternoon and then next day just a few delays but no cancellations. There was more snow then too...

My mum is also leaving on a flight from Heathrow in a few hours...

I'm in Crawley about 15 minutes from Gatwick.

We've had around 6 inches of snow down here. Most of the dual carriageways in the area are down to a single lane and even then people are still taking it very easy. Side roads are really bad. The snow we have had has not disappeared so cicumstances are not really much different to two days ago.

It snowed a bit earlier as Justin pointed out and we are supposed to be due for more over the weekend so I would definitely try to contact the airport first before dragging yourself all the way down here.
