Packing in the the smokes

Only had 2 smokes today, and I didn't really need either of them to be honest, more habit than anything.

These magic beans are really working!

Well I've made through 1 week without smoking. Cravings are much less evident now which makes things a lot easier. Worked out I've already saved about £55, jeez at that rate I'll be able to afford a new Mac!

I relented, smoked today. Why I don't know, and I'm really annoyed with myself for doing it.

Grr.

how did it feel?

i was so close to buying a pack today but i'm feeling pretty good, sleeping much deeper and must've saved over £20 by not smoking since monday and used this to balance out the fact that a cigarette would not make me feel as good as those plus points so it wasn't worth it. if i go out tomorrow for a few beers it's gonna be tough though

Yeah this is a concern for me too, so harsh as it is, I'm not going to drink for a week or two either:o

Everything I thought it would be: pointless, confidence damaging and shameful. Strong words, but I think they sum things up pretty well.

It wasn't even like there was a "good" reason like stress, boredom or premeditated cravings going too far. Hence why I'm really annoyed. I gave up for 18 months cold turkey a couple of years ago and that was a breeze, this has been a nightmare week.

I hear what you're saying about better sleep though. (Ironic as this sounds coming from me after the above) If you can get through a night on the beer without smoking then you're pretty much there, that for me last time was the big hurdle but once over the "fear" of relenting when having a few jars is gone and you're free to carry on as normal.

Right, I'm gonna go and sulk for a little bit. Slap myself around, then look forward to trying to knock this on the head again.

I wouldn't give yourself such a hard time over it mate. At least your trying to give up. If you take 5 minutes and think it over even if you slipped up and had a smoke, that's probably the first time in 7 -ish days - compared with what 70-140? That's still pretty impressive!

It'll be 10 days smoke free for me on tomorrow, switched from the gum to the lozenges now.

So who here is planning on giving up the totems of doom come the New Year?

I myself have smoked 10 a day for 14 years now and have decided once and for all to get it dealt with.

What would people recommend from experience, cold turkey or one of the many over the counter pills/gums/patches/books that I keep hearing about?

Might be worth us putting our ideas and plans in here then updating once we're on the wagon.

Wish me luck!

Good Luck mate, remember it will benefit you in the LONG TERM:)

Chaps please

If you want help giving the smokes up then try champix.
I smoked for 28 years and quit after taking these.
I never thought I could do it, the habit is more powerful then the addiction.
Go for it, I never felt so good. 4 months and a few days for me 2700 odd smokes not smoked!

Good luck to you and everyone else that's giving up this year.

I'm doing it too, my 7th day today and feeling positive about it and hope you are too. I'm using the gum BUT only chewing when I'm having a tab moment (sorry Northern twang) cigarette moment.

I was having a panic on Friday. The lasses usually have a gathering on Friday's for a drink. I made it an effort not to mention that i have quit, somebody sparked one up and I nearly cried. Grin and bear it!!!

Moving on... that was the hardest for me, I got through it by saying I don't want one over and over again in my head. Went home and felt brilliant for getting through it.

I find that having a motivation helpful. Girls will identify with this. My motivation is a pair of boots I have been eyeing up for ages, they cost £180.00... here comes the calculation.

Where I live an average pack of 20 cost £5.20 so
£180 / £5.20 = 35 packs (round up to next whole number)
I smoked 3 packs A WEEK so
35packs / 3 = 12weeks, I can afford those boots with the money I would spend on smokes in 12 weeks

Guys, replace the boots with a new graphic card or ipod etc something less than £200 so it's easier to aim for.

Go on, give it a try with your thing you want and how many you DID smoke!

I know, you'll be saying use the credit card etc. but it's not the point.

It's sound so shallow doesn't it? I should be saying I've quit for my health but it works for me and it might work for you if you're at your wits end.

Good luck again Chris and everyone who's doing it!!! x

day 6 for me as well.

started with the niquitin mints for 2 days and then tried some nicotinell chewing gum.

have not had one smoke and ive been of the mints and chewing gum for 2 days now.

to be honest im not missing smoking one bit,i had a chat with someone at work last night after thay had a smoke and it neally made me heave with the smell from the ciggy.

i smoked for 20 years and was on about 20 to 30 a day, most of the last 10 years have been roll up's.

feeling so positive now and very happy i have achieved this on my own.

to be honest i didnt think i could do it but proved myself wrong big time.....must be my age now !

I give up tomorrow, I only smoked 1 yesterday so I really think the Champix is doing the job.

Started doing some cardio at the gym yesterday too which nearly killed me, looking forward to seeing the improvements in the next couple of weeks.

I gave up 5 years ago after a 20 a day habit that I'd had for 25 years.

I used the patches, the full course which was about 8 weeks or something and then 2 weeks of the gum.

Its hard have no doubt, but it gets easier and once free from this addiction you'll wonder why you didn't give up a long time ago.

Stick with it people it really is worth the effort.

I don't smoke, but I gave up alcohol ten days ago. I was drinking 3+ pints a night then spirits on top of that the weekends, for about 6 months.

However, on topic, when I did drink, it was the only time I smoked, so I suppose I am giving up, kind of.
