Duke Nukem himself all but confirms Duke Nukem Forever

Well I'm not going to be on the bandwagon. I'm still looking forward to this.
Same.

The first game I ever installed on my first PC was DN3D, I scoured the numerous ECTS shows for info on DNF in subsequent years.
Maybe I just want it to exist so I can justify all the missed opportunities to see scantily clad models promoting shoddy games.
Deep down I actually believe it was/is something outstanding, even though I know the likelihood of disappointment is epic.

I think I just need closure on my first gaming love.

Interestingly since the games been canned theres been more and more little clips, interviews, etc. coming out. Probably in the hope that a big studio rescues them and allows them to work on it again for the next 10 years.

I must be the only person who isn't really bothered about it. If it comes out I'll play it if it doesn't, well so what. It's about 9 years over due and, from the stuff I've seen, looks pretty damn poor. The only thing I enjoyed in the original Duke Nukem was the comments and that got boring after an hour or so.

What bandwagon? Theres no bandwagon when theres not even going to be a game. Christ just let the rumours die already. Its not going to happen.

Why? Because I loved and still play Duke 3D. I waited ages for a system shock successor and loved Bioshock, why does everyone assume that DNF will take the Daikatana route and be all doom and gloom?

The bandwagon refers to how everyone jumps on this game for being late, when no-one really promised us that it would ever arrive. The developers have maintained a policy that although costly, I love. Said policy involves keeping the game as up to date as possible so as to reduce the amount of negativity in the hype. It seems cool to hate something that becomes popular (see: Fall Out Boy) and DNF seems like another victim of this. People getting angry over promises that were never made to them.

Diakatana was a massive fail but at least we knew it was coming, and actually went gold in the end. 3DR just spent 12 years teasing fans and twiddling their thumbs. Eventually someone must have given them a kick up the backside and they pulled their finger out and actually gave us proper screenshots and stuff but by then the end was nigh and it was too little too late.

people... usually when design documents and conceptual work get abandoned and released, people release NDA work as portfolio stuff, IT MEANS THE GAME AINT COMING OUT.

Rumours that smaller teams are making smaller games, but DNF aint gonna happen. Not the one that was touted anyway

Cool to hate? Jesus i can't believe you're actually trying to say its cool to hate a game that will never even get made. Duke Nukem Forever could have been done... 10 years ago. This game isn't late, this game is dead in the water and will never be made. Actually hoping it comes out is just ridiculous.

Why do you assume i hate DN? Duke Nukem 3D was 1 of the first FPS games i played and it was brilliant. I don't hate DNF, its just not going to happen! How difficult is this to understand, speculating the game will still be released is just ridiculous and a waste of time.

How do you know it won't be released.

Avatar took like 16 years and look how everyone's loving that.

Must admit reading the OP did raise a smile.

Even now they still won't give a proper answer on this game, I like a lot of others don't expect to ever see this game.

I didn't know the 3drealms forums were back up. I had some fun in there suggesting stuff for DNF, despite the fact that I was almost certain it would never be released. That was before they stopped development and made everyone redundant, which makes releasing the game somewhat harder. 3DR wouldn't get DNF released if they had another 10 years and a bottomless pit of money.

We'll see some mediocre Duke Nukem handheld and phone games soon, made by other games developers of course. Tiny woo.

I still play DN3D every now and then, with the high res pack. I'll get around to trying the new renderer this weekend.

14 years after release and fans are still developing DN3D, not just making new maps for it. It's bizarre that 3DR never made a sequel. It could have been a huge franchise.

Oh, and this story? There's a lawsuit in process, so of course people involved in the project aren't allowed to talk about it to the media.

I'm sure it's all but been confirmed that DNF was a hoax.

Am I going mad here lol.

No, it wasn't a hoax. It was just a case of too much money, not enough competence and too much attachment. 3DR had so much money that they were under no pressure with DNF, then they arsed about for years poking at it a bit in a disorganised fashion with nowhere near enough people on it, then they continually changed the specs every other week as new ideas occured to them, adding to the confused mess and wasted work...and through it all they were never going to let their life's work project out into the open to face any criticism. There's always some more stuff you can add, especially if development is so slow that new hardware and games keep coming out.
