 Genuinely confused about this. The poem contains the word 'likey' which is apparently a seriously bad word to use as it rhymes with ***** you see and is offensive to gyppos. The best bit is that my local police force can't even figure out that this guy didn't write the poem.

Good to see that crime is so under control in Sussex that this sort of thing is a priority for the poh-leece.

Gotta love the Daily Mail. You could have 1 incident where police did an outstanding job, saved lives etc, and 1 incident which puts them in a bad light over something which is almost certainly not what happened. Which do you think the DM would print?

What a joke of a paper they are.

Well lets forget about the 'police' stat for a moment.
Simple course of action to be taken here, the member of the council should be named and then charged with wasting police time. Sacked from their job, and forced to pay restitution for their interpretation of an English phrase.
'Do as you like attitude' morphed into 'Do as you likey attitude'.
Someone in the council needs named, or preferably taken out the back and shot for wasting council tax money. If I lived in that area I'd be contatcing my local councilor to have thme ascertain extacly who the person is, and if they are an elected official or a civil servant. Then either campaign against them next time they stand, or requets they be sacked to save thousands of pounds in council taxes.

Throw me all the sources you want. At the end of the day I can see just by looking at the article(s) that there's an important point missing, as there ALWAYS is, and that the key point has been deliberately excluded, or maybe not reported by Mr. Osmond.

As a serving police officer I'd never arrest anyone on face value of that email alone. One because CPS would laugh in my face and two, more importantly, it's a tremendous waste of time, especially as there is no real victim here.

As I said, there's always more to these stories than meets the eye.

gypsies are a race? didn't know that... well, that'll teach those racist pigs not to use words rhyming with derogatory terms.

edit: am I being racist against racists here? and if so, then I am a racist, so can i still be racist against my own people? and if I can't then I'm not racist... but then I am.... argh.

Your going to jail.

"Do as you likey" does blatantly mean ***** though. I can remember that saying going as far back as school in the 80s and it's still used now.

But who cares.

But police had taken his DNA and later confirmed they would be holding it indefinitely.
A council spokesman said: ‘As far as we were concerned it was an offensive comment, so we got in touch with the police.’
Why can't you be this efficient at doing what we pay you for?

You have the right to remain silent....

Free speech doesn't come cheap in the UK. Reminds of that man arrested for writing a rape fantasy, so much time and money wasted, at least he actually did it though.

Maybe at one time it meant that, but loads of people use it in unrelated contexts.

Occasionally the authorities do something so stupid that all the Daily Fail have to do is tell it how it happened.

There's a significant number of people here with power who each went a little OTT.

Oh, and I'm quite happy to call gypos ***** scum if they clearly are an inbred community of violent criminals who seem to get away with anything they like. Which I can't see being the case here.
