well i wont be chopping in my ps3 or my 360 for it ..........

Couldn't Nintendo make a cheap Wii without a optical drive for these "developing markets" it would be better than that garbage.

Eh, it's not cutting edge gaming but hell, it's not for the UK. It's to spread the addiction of gaming in less well off countries. They won't get many PS3 sales but can do better with something cheaper packing old games which might as well be new games to someone who's never seen them.

Edit: Got it now. I wonder what the graphics are like on some of those games. Fifa 09 for example. For that money the console should be giving you the next gen version, probably isn't though.

Created for developing markets, such as those who can't afford or get hold of the likes of PS3's, but it's download only?

Hope the games are small, cause the markets this will be intended for are probably on dial-up, if they have the internet at all.
 
This is going to be a total fail, I don't see how can they target poor countries with massive piracy and then expect them to pay for this thing and then pay for some old games.

They have 3G built in and games are in three bands of max 8mb, max 25mb and max 50mb.

As for piracy, that's rather the whole point of download only. The only other way to share data is through SD cards and USB storage. No disk drive for easily copied games on cheap disks.
 
So how long till Bill buys / bribes them out?

Seems a good idea, shouldn't be too diificult to produce a 360 without an optical drive and add in 3g support.
 
This supposed games console is basically a mobile phone in a bigger box. What a big pile of mediocrity. I don't see why you wouldn't get a second hand Gamecube, Xbox or similar because something like that would be cheaper, more powerful and have a larger number of games.
