I may have an oppertunity to get the ASUS version of the card Cheaper than normal.

I have always gone for Sapphire and given the 5970 version is OC it makes it more appealing.

Just for clarification, can you guys tell me if I are right or wrong with the following assumption:

The ASUS and SAPPHIRE 5970 are both the same card exactly, its just that they have different branding, box and software. The OC part of the sapphire setup is just a slight overclock done at the factory. This wouldnt stop me doing exactly the same thing at home with the ASUS version.

So given the choice (cheaper ASUS version) would you say 'hell yeah' to buying that one?

Cheers Chaps!

Get the Sapphire as you'll never get an Asus, loads of people are waiting for them (all 5800 series), but they've only shipped about 2 since the cards launched.

Out of curiousity how much are you able to buy it for? Im waiting to see nvidia's response but could have been persuaded to buy a 5970 had it not been for the utter rip of prices were expected to pay. £550+ for us, a mere £400+ in the US. Something just aint quite right.

I'd also say Asus, due to being able to clock higher than other cards. Yes you can flash bios to Asus, but I imagine that voids warranty completely, so you still might just want to go with Asus.

I'd go with the Asus as well......................................come to think of it i did :)

The Asus and the MSI have an unlocked bios. Which means that if you are clocking with "Afterburner, for instance, you will not be limited by the 1000mhz core clock limit imposed by CCC. And, as has been said, the Asus and MSI clock higher than other cards as well.

Only useful of course if you plan to watercool the card. It will seriously overheat with anything more than 1000mhz.

are waiting lists for these ASUS 5970s very long? i ordered one last friday and really cant wait to get my hands on it! what ones have the best stock and shortest waiting list?

Phone up OCUK...these are people who have been waiting since they first went on the website, so there is probably quite a queue.

lucky you! i keep telling myself i dont mind waiting a bit longer for an ASUS card (im sort of an asus fanboy lol) but im also super impatient :P i want to get some big gaming on the go.
