Anyone seen this yet?

Quite tempted by it, but never sure with this type of film- they have the tendency to be really good or really terrible.

The book is supposed to be excellent, if you like that sort of story. The reviews I've read have been good, the problem being that the book is so good (from what I hear) that the film has a hard time matching it.

I saw it last Friday and really enjoyed it; a very good film! I haven't read the book but I saw it with my brother who has. He also thought it was a good film and said that it's very close to the book. Apparently there are only a couple of cuts from the book to the film. It's quite a dark, sad and depressing (and a couple of times quite horrible) movie so don't go and see it for a laugh or to be happily entertained, but do go and see it at some point.

I've just finished reading the book. It's not a book I enjoyed reading but nevertheless I read it very quickly. Not sure about the ending though.

Not sure I really liked it. It did a good job of telling a depressing post apocalyptic story, but nothing really seemed to happen. The ending was poor as well.

6.5/10

Watched it on Saturday. Pretty good film and close to what I expected. But damn, it is dark and depressing. Certainly not to be watched for light entertainment. The setting would make a great TV series.

7/10

Will be watching this tonight...looking forward to it as i saw the trailers for it sat night whilst watching Daybreakers at the cinema.

Saw earlier, slow but powerfull. Enjoyed The Proposition and was expecting something as grim and dirty, didnt disapoint.

A splattering of great small understated cameo's as well.

John Hilcote was interviewed on Radio4's Friday evening Film Show, the lady interviewing him almost had a go at him for what she perceived as an obvious CGI shot of ships stranded on a highway, amazingly he explained it wasnt CGI at all, but like many of them, touched up shots of post Hurricane Katrina.

Shocking when you see the utterly bleak devastation.

Very gritty film, definitely one of the most "real" cinema experiences I've ever come across. It's very slow paced but once it was over I felt like the 2 hours had flown by.

It's worth a watch but not for everyone, my friend came out of the cinema claiming it was one of the worst films she'd ever seen, but she has a terrible taste in films in general :p

What did everyone take away from the ending.

Here's what I did:-

*SPOILER* *SPOILER*

*SPOILER* *SPOILER*

From the boy's point of view - The family were following them for a long time. The boy he saw at his fathers house, was the boy from the other family. The dog he heard in the bunker was the other family's dog etc etc... Worse still, the other family showed a family could survive on the road, so his mother killed herself possibly for nothing (remember she feared it was impossible for her to make it alive).

Very slow and depressing movie.

Sounds perfect on both counts. I may well see it tonight.

EDIT - looking at the trailer, it does look like it may get schmaltzy towards the end. So it's either that or a screening of digital shorts. Meh.
