Just wrote complaint to the electoral commission

Dear Britboy4321,

With regards to your recent thread 'Just wrote complaint to the electoral commission', I felt the need to convey my concerns to you in this satirical post.

Whilst browsing General Discussion, I found that in particular that your thread really did not deliver. I would urge you to rectify this situation by being kind enough to insert lulz or points of interest in future threads.

Yours Faithfully,

Disgruntled G.D'er

You also have two opening brackets, but only one closing bracket in the paragraph were you mention your neighbors.

Well done for attempting to address this issue. I have not seen this peronally, but I could envisage situations when this type of bullying may occur. Who is to say that it would have to be partners? These bullies could also be getting their parents' votes too.

I suspect that this type of situation would also happen with those whose grasp of the English language is poor.

Before any of you start with the xenophobic / sexist comments about how these people should not be allowed to vote or should stick up for themselves, try understanding that there are people in this country to have to put up with domineering partners or family members.

THE REPLY -- Well, I certainly made a difference with my letter! Feel a little proud actually .. and for all those that said '**** letter' or 'waste of time' .. well - have more faith about complaining! - power to the people eh?!

Dear Mr 'Britboy'

Thank you very much for your letter concerning your experience at your local polling station.

Everyone has the right to cast their cote in secrecy and no one should be accompanying people to the polling booth to observe or influence how they vote. I am disappointed that a presiding officer would have allowed this to happen. The only exceptions to this are if the elector is disabled and asks the presiding officer for assistance either from themselves or a companion. Even in this instance the presiding officer must be satisfied that the elector's disabilities would prevent them from voting unaided.

The influence you observed at your polling station may have been an example of undue influence which is a criminal offence under electoral law.

The commission does not run elections but does provide advice and guidance to candidates, agents and local authorities. Before this year's election we shall be provigin materials to local authorities to help them train their staff that will work in the polling stations and hopefully prevent incidents such as the one you observed. As ever, if you feel you have witnessed a crime and feel happy to report it then do please contact the police.

Feel free to provide a copy of this letter to the presiding officer at any forthcoming elections.

Once again, thank you very much for your letter.

Yours sincerely.

Should have been a bit more formal and short/to the point.

You seemed to start off well then wonder off a bit.

Give it a bit of a slashing with the editing tools then post it off.

It does certainly seem an odd thing to allow.
