Back in Charlotte after an epic 3 day single-handed driving mission from Banff. 2610 miles, 2 countries, 10 states, falling snow, gale force blowing snow, 2 ft snow drifts, lots of ice, 500 litres of petrol + only pulled over for speeding once!

Day 1 : Banff, AB to Bismarck ND 940 miles
Day 2 : to Indianapolis 1030 miles
Day 3 : to Charlotte NC 640 miles

Audi A6 is an epic long distance cruiser, even with 92'000 miles on the clock, a slighty bent steering rack and a rear window that no longer works!

Assuming you slept eight hours a day, you averaged 55mph.. not too shabby!

I'd absolutely love to take some time off work and just go on a road trip :p

I don't really know why you'd leave Banff in the first place, easily the nicest place out of all of them.

Sounds good to me, got any pictures? ...I shall be going to Calgary for 3 weeks to a month later this year to spend some time in Canada, my uncle lives in Calgary, he went out there a year ago to join the police force, so I shall be staying with him.

I plan to rent a car and drive up to Banff, it's only about 70 miles from him apparently. I may carry on down the other side of the Rockies into British Columbia a bit too, dunno exactly yet, I haven't planned anything as such.

I shall be going back to Canada a second time later in the year too, but that trip I will be travelling around much longer distances to see different parts of it rather thanmainly just the Alberta locality. Maybe even cross into Montana etc. I can't wait anyway!

I suspect I wont want to come back :D

epic! we wont hear from him for a while, hell be sleeping for days... driving tiredness is strange, it really takes it out of you after 500 miles or so

how many miles can pros like you do in one sitting or one trip?

i find that onces i go past 400-500 miles in a day my head feels like its been filled with cement

I once drove a 1995 Ford Fiesta from Worcester to Nottingham and then up to Lancaster ...that was exhausting (it's quite a way when you have to zig zag accross country going via Nots and then get back on the M6), yet I can easily do that and further in one go, and have done in the Jag and not have all the aches and that utterly knackered feeling. Mind you I am also more used to driving now, I did that trip when I had only been driving 6 months maybe, that was about 8 years ago.

Banff is epic (for skiing as well - first time out of europe for me and skiing through the trees was a nice change!)

The drive from Banff to Jasper is insane....

Not sure i understand why you are driving such huge distances? Sounds like utter hell especially in weather conditions as described.

It totally depends on the car. I've done 400 miles in a day in my 530 and a similar amount in a Ford Falcon adn it was fine (Infact no big deal at all), yet 200 miles in a Mitsubishi Express van had me reaching for the Nurofen.

Which is why I always chuckle when people swear blind a 1.2 Punto is 'FINE ON THE MOTARWAY'

Actually did Plymouth to Barrow in a Skoda Felica once, that was godawful. My ears were going to explode.
