Whilst i appreciate the replies guys, please don't take the
"I'm not racist, but maybe you can guess what colour he was.."
the wrong way. Some people clearly are. It doesn't mean i AM racist at all. It was a statement made in anger as i'd guessed his colour before even seeing him, maybe from a stereotyped perception i don't know, but i was right. I said it to see if anyone else came to the same conclusion......and quite a few did.
I have some very close friends who are black, but that doesn't mean i like all blacks. The same goes for white people or any other race.
I make friends with people based on their demeaner/character not their skin colour.
I'll admit if it were a white guy i would almost certainly have challenged him. Why? Because he would have acted like a black-gangsta-wannabe and i would have found that ridiculous and felt less threatened.
The fact that he was black, intimidated me more and, again from a perception of stereotypes i was less inclined to find out whether he truly did have a knife. That may well have save my life.
Put it this way, if a guy wearing a turban and acting shifty walks into a crowded airport and starts creating, you're more likely to fear for your life than some chav making a fuss in the same place, no? Its perception!
I wish i had called the police, so anyone saying i was dumb for not doing, fair enough. But part of me thought they'll do bugger all, cos it has to be proved and he leant into my car window and everyone else in the queue was in their car, so very unlikely to hear the conversation. He stood casually, allbeit with his hand in his pocket, with it 'possibly' wrapped around a knife.
At the end of the day, as someone stated, i came away with a little dent in my pride.....
